Exactly 6 months from when this crazy journey started...
I have a date!!!!!
I will be having Lap RYN with Dr. Laguna at Fairview Southdale on Wednesday, October 29th, two weeks from today. I'm sure many of you experienced this, but up until now, it didn't feel real. Now I'm feeling just how real it is. I'm a little freaked out, but I know I'm ready. I really wish I would have been able to make it out to a coffee before I got to this point but things have been really busy. So... any advice you want to throw my way would be very welcomed! I know I'm a lurker but just reading everyone's posts from day to day, regardless of the topic, is very comforting. I appreciate this site and all of you!

Hey Kristy,
They supposedly sent in my claim last Monday, October 6th. I called BCBS yesterday and they said they had just receieved it the day before, Monday October 13th. So... depending on when FSH actually sent the claim in, either 8 days or 3 days. And either way... it's a fast turn around!!
Have they submitted your claim yet? I can't remember...

Ok... let me try this again. I totally read your question wrong. I was called this morning with my approval and was offered my date in the same phone call. The only reason it is two weeks out is because I needed to give work a two-week notice. I believe there were openings to have my surgery in less than two weeks, but that's at FSH. I hope you get a date right away too!
Congrats, Robyn!!
You still have time to meet a whole mess of us - at a coffee, or at Swapkins/potluck/bonfire this Saturday - you are CERTAINLY WELCOME!!!
Fear pre-op is totally normal. Don't let it paralyze you - if you've come to believe that THIS (WLS) is your answer, then let go and Let God! You won't regret it. Even the people who have had some complications immediately following surgery got through 'em and don't regret a thing!
We'll make room on the bench for ya!!!

I'm not perfect but I am going to die trying!!!
Congratulations, Robyn! It is a big step and your brain will go crazy with "what if's" in the next 2 weeks so be prepared. I almost talked myself out of it, but just continued to put one foot in front of the other and before I knew it I was at the hospital having surgery!
I just had my Lap RNY on 10/8 at Unity in Fridley with Dr. Johnson and let me tell you, I had built it up in my head to be this big, scary deal, but the reality was that it didn't hurt much at all and it was over in no time. As soon as they put the IV in and wheel you into the O.R., you don't remember a thing til you wake up in your hospital room.
The hardest thing before surgery was nothing by mouth after midnight on the day of surgery. When I woke up, my mouth was SO dry and they wouldn't let me drink anything for I think a whole day after that?! They had these little sponges on a stick you could dip in water and swab your mouth out with, but it did not compare to being able to actually drink something.
My stomach was a little puffy with air too after surgery, but it was better by about the 4th day. The pain really wasn't bad at all and I think I only took 2 doses of my pain meds (of course, they were liquid and really nasty tasting).
Right now I'm just dealing with nothing but liquids and I am really sick of all things watered-down juice, Crystal light and sugar free Kool-Aid, I can't even do chicken or beef broth anymore without gagging and finally broke down and made miso soup. Thank God. It is delicious and has a little more oompf to it as far as making me feel like I've had something of substance. The miso paste is supposed to be good for digestion too.
So, anyway, just hang in there these 2 weeks. You've prepared for this and worked for it for a long time and now it's finally here. I hear this is a life-changing decision, but I'm still in the baby stages so can't really offer much advice. Right now I feel like I'm just muddling through each day and praying for my pureed foods (not until 10/29 - sigh). I never realized how important food was to me, and if you live with someone else who still needs to eat, it's really hard. I finally had to just leave the house when my boyfriend is cooking/eating because it's too difficult. I actually drool when I smell food. How sad. Ha ha.
