Gall Bladder issue?
About 3 days ago I started experiencing mild pain under my right rib cage/upper adomen area. It feels like something is pressing into my ribs. It is more uncomfortable when I breath in and when I'm moving around. Half the day yesterday I started to experience pain in my upper back, more noticably by my right shoulder blade near the middle of my back. That persisted all day into the evening until I went to bed. The pains in my back are gone today, however, but the same pains are still in the gall bladder area.
I called my nurse and she said it could be inflamation, irritation of the lining, or bile build up in the gall bladder or that I'm passing or passed a stone. She advised going in for an ultra sound to urgent care, but I was waiting to see if it would maybe subside since it isn't unbearable. She did think it was rather early to have developed gall stones only 1 month following surgery.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Steffanie

Cheers to seeing LESS of me!

I'd take your nurses suggestion. I wouldn't "wait to see" because whatever is causing it probably won't go away and could get worse.
Just me, but I'd rather be proactive than reactive.
Best wishes to you Steff.

2014 update...regained but haven't lost faith.
I think I'll head to Park Nicolet Urgent Care in the morning if the pains are still there.
It's more uncomfortable than anything. But you're right, I should probably go in....just the thought of having another surgery when I'm finally recovered is not something I want to think about. I hope it's just something I ate...I did have a small amount of grapefruit juice mixed in some cranberry juice when I was out on Wednesday evening....maybe it was too acidic?
I read that a bunch is meeting for Coffee in Eagan. I used to live in Eagan...of course if I go to urgent care I wouldn't be able to come. but otherwise maybe I'll get a chance to meet some of the people on here.

Hi Steffanie
Just from my experience.....my daughter ended up having to go to the emergency room because she had pain just like you did. It got so unbearable, she went in to the ER. They did an ultrasound and found she had thoughsands of tiny stones and had to take out her gallbladder.. She had been having pain for the last month. For me, I was having the same pain as you have, put it off to a year and had to have my gallbladder removed as an emergency. Much better to go in before it becomes an emergency.
Going to the ER is not fun :((
I hope you find out what the problem is.
Good luck
Peggy

Thanks for the info. Can I ask how far out you both were from your surgery when this happened? I am just shocked that after having an ultra sound pre op and having no gall stones...to having them in 1 month...it seems so unrealistic? Has anyone else had this type of discomfort so soon after surgery with regards to the gall bladder.

Cheers to seeing LESS of me!

Hey Steffanie
My gallbladder issues where a couple years before my surgery, so it was about 8 years ago. My daughters issues were 5 1/2 years port-op. But the surgeon said they had been building up since probably right after her gastric bypass. She had been having back issues for a couple years now and it just finally got to where she couldn't stand it anymore. The bariatric surgeon helped do the gallbladder removal because she actually had a stone in her bile duct. That's where all her pain was coming from. So you don't necessarily have to have a lot of stones to have one start to travel.
Also, my ultrasound did not show any stones, but I had "sludge" in my gallbladder that was making the bile back up. After not finding any in the ultrasound, they did a dye test to check the flow and found I basically didn't have any flow......so they removed it.
Did you find out anything yet?
Hope all goes well for you.

Wow, talk about perfect timing for this posting. I have been having nausea, right sided pain, dizziness, and back pain for 2 weeks now. I thought it was just the flu or something. I never even thought about gallbladder. When I go online and research it, bam there is it. I am really glad you posted this, and I hope you feel better soon. Let us know what you find out after you go to the Dr. Now I just have to find a Dr. I just moved to FL three months ago, and don't have one down here.
