What I've observed as a lowly stock clerk..
--Keeping my work area (the toy, the hardware, the stationary, and the seasonal areas) clean and tidy is as fulfilling as keeping my home clean. (How pathetic is that..)
--Kids left unattended by their parents or jailors will create total chaos in the toy department in a short time.
--Said parents will hustle kids right out of the toy department as fast a they can when they see what their darlings have done.
--People who are slobs at home will be slobs in the store--and guess what--I am NOT paid to put away their trash!! (But I do anyway--in keeping my area clean.)
--One out of three young people hired by the store do not know how to work unattended. And I've had to work with one of those 'kids'. How frustrating. If she was MY kid...
--All people to whom I have offered small-talk have responded positively--and I've had some great conversations. And they feel like they've been listened to.
--Once a thief always a thief. I have found people steal : feminine lubricant, kids' medicines, expensive toys that are not nailed down, a few kotex outta the box, a handful of treats outta the box, a pen outta the package of 4, a few bites outta deli meals, DVDs after they take off the wrapping, kids' clothing, and the 'piece de resistance'--someone took clean undies and left their dirty ones behind. All the wrappings/boxes, etc. were discovered behind merchandise.
--People DO NOT know how to put things back where they got them, if they decide they don't want the item.
--Working hard--as opposed to 'hardly working'--makes the shift fly by!
--People DO want to feel like someone cares about them--even if it's that lowly stock clerk a the Great Canadian SuperStore--(which actually SHOULD be called the Great Chinese SuperStore. 90% of the merchandise is imported from China. BOO to the owner).
And lastly--people seem blown away by the simple phrase--'May I help you?' (But all folks have responded very pleasantly. I admit this--helping folks who don't expect it DOES give me a 'warm fuzzy feeling'.)

So this has been a learning experience.
OKAY God--I've learned something. Can I PLEASE have a job in social work with the elderly??
Sue- You're really making the most of a job that's not what you had in mind. I hope some of your positiveness and work ethic rubs off on the youngers in your store. It's wonderful you said every smile you've given you've gotten back, even from the customer that looked a bit crabby. I can't believe the crap people get into an steal. Take one pen? Pads? Lubricant? OH MY!!!! Your stint in the Super Store will pay off, you'll see.

I really am trying to be positive. On my way to work I say my morning prayers, and I ask God that people see Him through me. I hope that by being cheerful and having a good work ethic people will see God through me--or at least see someone who looks happy to see them!
'Be nice to everyone you meet--- because you don't know who is having a bad day, and being nice might change the way the day is going for someone.' MY MOTTO.

I'm almost afraid for tomorrow--Monday-- to come in that I should be hearing from the Alzheimers Society about that job.
I've checked with my sister who lives in the Wausau 'burbs and she says it's okey dokey for me to stay with them if I land the Community Care job.

I know what it's like to be in a job that ISN'T where you want to be and can sympathize! It's amazing how God can give us the strentgh and teach us at the same time! HE WILL give you that awesome job you so desire(and desrve) as that is his promise (KEEP believing!)! Also, you are an inspiration to me (hopefully many others) as you make the best of what you have and or have to do! My prayers continue that you hear with GREAT news tomorrow and I await to read the post!!!

You are what you EAT and WHO you hang out with! Choices=Outcome~ what's YOUR choice??
I'm not perfect but I am going to die trying!!!
Tears! What a way to start the week! But they are good tears, and humble ones, from your kind and sweet words. Thank you!
When I saw 'contagious' I immediately thought 'like the 'flu!!' but saw your 'meant in a good way' so I think that's a good thing? I'm kinda seeing this job as a mini-mission field, where actions speak louder than words. As the world turns farther from Jesus, I might be the only 'Jesus' someone sees. Does that make sense? The day is too short NOT to be kind and cheerful! And hopefully, 'what goes around comes around', in that maybe some day I MIGHT need the smile or someone to let me skip ahead of them in a grocery checkout line.
I'm almost afraid to answer the phone today! PLEASE GOD...but if the answer is NO, I hope my fragile ego will accept that it's God saying NO to this job.

And you've probably seen this before, but I love this sign...maybe you need to post this at work:
Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy
Hang in there honey - The right job WILL happen when it's supposed to happen!!! God WILL provide for you - put your stress at His feet - Let go & Let God!!! In the meantime, prayers are still being said for yoU!!
Take care!
I think that despite my being raised in a very dyfunctional family, my parents did do a good job of imparting the good work ethic.
(Our family joke, amongst us siblings, is that we were so dysfunctional , we took the 'fun' out of funeral. We do enjoy gallows humour!)
I love the sign! I wonder if my super would let me post it.
Thanks for reminding me about God and job hunting. He will provide!
