Sleep Study
My hats off to those of you who have had a sleep study, either as part of your pre-surgery requirements or not, because I felt like a complete idiot! I had my overnight study Sunday night and then was there all day Monday for the nap study.
I was so nervous, I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to sleep. After they finally got me all hooked up Sunday night, I did fall asleep after awhile and woke up shortly after 7 a.m. Not too bad. Then they sent me downstairs to the deli for some breakfast. Talk about losing my vanity. I still had wires coming from everywhere on my head and face and I had baggy clothes on since I'd be doing the nap study today. I still feel sorry for that little kid that was on the elevator with me - that poor mama had some explaining to do!
The nap study was so tiring. That sounds ridiculous doesn't it? I know. But, honestly, they put you down for 4, 20 minute naps, to rule out narcelepsy and it is torture man. By the time I'd fall asleep, they'd be in there waking me up. And I was missing my coffee by the second one. Between missing my coffee and being tired, I was getting cranky but the tech said he could not tell. Thank goodness.
All in all, glad that is over with. Will be interesting to see what the doc makes of the report.
I think I did figure out several concepts of how to make that place a little more pleasing though! Aromatherapy rooms, Ipod docking stations, Wi-Fi, DVD players, etc. Soap operas and talk shows just about put me over the edge!

What was your experience? Did you think of ways to improve the facility you were at?

The first thing that comes to mind would be providing a little Vidal Sassoon UNLEADED to get that petrified CRAP out of your hair...
I thought my sleep study was an exercise in ridiculousness. They MADE me sleep on my back for part of the night, only I NEVER slept on my back at that time! So in the morning, when they said there was a very disturbed portion of my sleep schedule, I couldn't help but point out that it just HAPPENED to correspond with the timeframe they had me lay on my back. DUH! Well, I just had a very MILD case of apnea, not enough to treat.
NOW I can sleep on my back all the time! Go figure...
Still doing my lucky chicken dance for you & the DS, my girlfriend!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
The tech told me the #1 reason people do not sleep on their backs is because they have apnea.
I wasn't convinced. I've always been a stomach sleeper, too!
Thanks for doing the dance. Will let you know eventually! At least they've got me on the calendar again just in case that appeal goes through this time.

My sleep study was a bit torturous, but they got what they wanted out of it. They told me to sleep on my back -- which I can't do very well... so I kept falling asleep for what felt like seconds at a time and then waking up. Needless to say, I went home and slept all day.
When I had mine done, they had to keep waking me up to tell me to roll back over onto my back. I'd start out on my back and within half an hour, I'd roll over to my stomach or side.
I haven't used the CPAP since nearly 6 months after my surgery. I think I'd better go get retested so I can get it off my records that I need one.

Boy, aren't those wires horrid!!! ESPECIALLY the one that monitors the airflow in and out of your nose
!!!
The only issue I had was one of the spots were they put the monitor on my head must have been rubbed to hard because I had a scab the size of the sticky pads for weeks after! And getting the glue out~ UGH
Hugs my dear friend!!
MISS ya and by the way expect an email soon!!!!

I had my sleep study at the University of MN--Fairview. The study itself was not fun but the room and tech were wonderful. They had a sleep number bed, the room was really pretty and my tech explained everything and was very personable.
Believe it or not, I did the sleep study and then went to work the next morning. I don't know what I was thinking.
It was awful getting the stuff out of my hair and i think i was sticky all over from the tape and stuff for a week.
I just had my appointment with the sleep specialist for my study results. I was shocked that I fell asleep 10 minutes after they shut off the light. No apnea thank goodness but I did find out that I have restless legs which wakes me up many times a night.
I did find out that I snore "very loudly." Yes, they put the "very" in there. Thank goodness I'm single right now!
