I am currently on my fourth gastric bypass surgeon. I started with Dr. I at U of M and our personalitites did not get along cause basically he said nothing was wrong with me. So I went to Mayo and proved him wrong. Well that turned into hell and ended up at United Hospital for 2 weeks cause I had peritonitis that was going septic. That is where I had Dr Ben Suhr. He was great! Then he no longer could do bariatrics (long story) and so he suggested Dr Schwartz. Well I was really sicka t the time and could not wait 3 weeks for an appt and found out that Dr. Crystal Schlosser was working out of the same office (she was the fellow under Dr I and so she knew my case and was great when I dealt with her, she believed that something was wrong and she would fix it). Well after about 6 month period, she went out on medical leave and now moved away so I am with Dr. Raymond Drew of Mpls Bariatric surgeons. He sort of aquired me after Dr Schlosser left (same group of surgeons) and I really like him. When I have problems, liek the tube, Ic all the office, talk to the NP and she pages Dr Drew. He calls me back, he has called me back in the middle of surgery before (I could hear all the stuff in the background). He has called me back at midnight when he was paged cause I was having problems. I really like him. He is the one who is going to do my reversal in the next couple years and put on the lap band. I jsut hate thinking that each thing that is done to try and help me ends up with some type of complication and it is just a vicious cycle. I know that Dr Buchwald is good but I cannot chance running into Dr I (they work in the same office) because we really had a bad falliing out. Also, does Dr B do reversals? I have to have everything put back from my original RNY and then have the band put on. Its not a typical thing to  reverse a surgery and its major to do it. Has he done actual reversals before?  I just worry changing surgeons also cause I am such complicated case. I am afraid taht no one else would want to take me on because of the liability. I am luck I was able to have the surgeon I do now!!!!! Thanks for the advice though, I really appreciate it.  I hope I find some answers soon too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Dr Buchwald has done complete takedowns of the RnY.  And just an FYI . . . Dr B and Dr I are rarely, if ever, in clinic on the same days . . . Dr B is Weds., and I think Dr I is Tuesdays . . . so you wouldn't run into him.  I just suggested Dr B because he has, I believe, probably more experience with bariatric surgeries than anyone in the state (and probably farther!) since he's been at it so long.

I appreciate the suggestion and thanks on the clinic days. I did look him up and yes he does have alot of experience at it. Thanks I will have to look into it more as it becomes time to do it.

In all honesty, he may have information or more inclination to do it sooner than a couple years from now . . . doesn't hurt to check!  Maybe you could not wait until your current docs opinion of the 'time to do it'?  I am in no way medically knowledgable about your situation, but waiting may not have to be an option.

In all honesty, the waiting is the hardest part. I just don't want this to turn into a one day fine and the next I am having surgery. I will check into the revision and I already have a letter typed to go out to about a dozen different surgeons asking for consults and opinions (Dr B is one of them) to see if they think reversal is the best. Thanks for the posts, they really help.
