Help me... I can't seem to stop eating crap

I feel like I not only fell off the wagon, that it also ran me over.  I was doing SO good.  I ran a 5k and had lost 70lbs.  Since then I seem to be putting anything and everything in my mouth without any self control.  I need some support and I don't think group is til next week.

Not sure what to do?  Get in with the dietician again?  Thanks for your help.

is it carbs?  get off them totally!!  go to straight protein until you get your cravings back under control.  Meat, a bit of cheese, and more meat  :)  eggs... protein shakes.  if you get the carbs out of your system you don't crave them.

if it's not carbs you are wolfing, I"m no help... it seems that is all I want when I"m "dying" for something.

*hugs* and the best of luck to you... just remember... right now is as good a time as any to get back on track... no need to wait!!

I've fallen off the wagaon a few times so I know how you feel.  I did a few things to get myself back on track.

1. called the dietician
2. attended a support group and a coffee group
3. started tracking what I ate on The Daily Plate (be honest)
4. verbalize your goals to yourself and support network so that they know what is going on
5.  counceling (psychologist/psychiatrist)
6.  come to OH board for inspiration.

I hope this helps.

If you do feel out of control, I can PM you the name and contact info for a bariatric psychologist I have been seeing (she did my pre-op psych evaluation and I am seeing her once a month or more until I am at least a year out).  If that is not practical, you might stop and think about what has been stressing you out lately.  At least for me, my pre-op weight gains tracked stress in direct proportion.  Life is more stressful and worrisome than it has been in awhile, so you wouldn't be alone in struggling with that particular set of worries.  You have taken a good first step in reaching out to others here.  There are so many supportive, caring people on the MN board so keep posting and unburdening yourself of whatever concerns and feelings of guilt you might be having over eating crap.  PM me if you would be comfortable doing so.

Take care,

RP

I don't have any advise, I'm still pre-op, but wanted to say congrats on your sucess so far. You've proven to yourself you can do it, you just need to re-focus on what helped you to lose those first 70lbs in the first place.

I am trying to do a mainly protein shake diet to lose the 10lbs my surgeon requires, but had such a strong craving this afternoon for spicy/salty, I licked all the salt and seasoning off of a single Chili Lime almond and then tossed the almond in the trash. Ugh!  Never in my life would I have thought I would do that, but the trick seemed to work.  Hope you at least get a chuckle out of my little struggle today.  You're not alone. :-)

HOLY SMOKES!  What self control YOU have!  To lick the salt/flavouring off a nut and NOT eat the nut!!  I am sooo impressed!
Remember this when you think you can't go another day on the LD!

And remember that SF popcicles are considered part of the diet.  Appaarently you can get really good popcicles like root beer!!  (We can't--  )

You are not alone.  I have to get a serious grip on emotional eating!

I am sooooo with you.  I understand.  I've been eating pretzels, crackers, anything I can lay my hands on.

I am going to try Lori's suggestion about giving up carbs - next week.  First, I have to finish off what I have, otherwise it will still be calling from the cupboard (oh yes, my food talks.....).

Seriously - we are here for you.  Has something happened to trigger the eating, or are you (like me) storing up for the winter?  It is good to keep a food diary.  I really should go back to fitday and look at what I WAS eating a year ago when I was oh so good.

Don't kick yourself, keep on running!!

You were brave enough to fess up!  Thats 1/2 the battle in my opinion.  My reverting to my old habits when my life gets out of control is what has stopped me from reaching my goals.

What do I do?  Crawl back up on the wagon as soon as I realize what I'm doing and hold on tight.  Some times I lose my grip and tumble over again, but thats what being human is all about and precisely why I had this surgery to begin with.

Keep posting here.  Its been helping me lately!

I have been thinking about what I am doing different all day.  Eating carbs mainly.  I need to get some "good" pr otein back in this house and get the halloween candy OUT!

And I need to get my body back to the gym!  So my goal right now is out with the carbs

Thank you everyone,.  I do need to come here more often.
