My Pre-Op LD: Day #3 In The Books!
Well, I started my pre-op diet for my 11/11/08 surgery this past Saturday. I am drinking 5 glucerna shakes a day, supplemented by non-carbonated water (bottled, flavored, propel, aquafina flavored, etc.). The first two days were the worst. I ended up going to bed earlier than I usually would vs. stay up hungry. :p I have also been avoiding watching one of my favorite television shows - "Anthony Bourdain No Reservations" on the Travel Channel. I don't need any more help feeling hungry.
I have managed to step up my exercise program in the meantime. I got out to the health club this weekend two times and I am really starting to feel better! Most notably, I can tell my blood sugar levels are really stabilizing under this pre-op LD! Another thing that has helped has been to make some chicken broth to have. I am concerned that the boullion cube that I use to make the broth has 800 mg of sodium on it. One way I found to "extend" the flavor is to also put in some chili paste into my broth (my wife showed me this trick). Very tasty.
Well, I am all set to head in for my surgery a week from tonight. I will post an update as soon as I am able to after my surgery. Take Care, God Bless and thank you to everyone on OH for your caring and support! -Alan

Hello Alan,
Not sure if you've heard of the Mrs. Grass soup in a box? I would prepare it as instructed and then strained the noodles and drank the broth and its very yummy. I also had sugar free popiscles and jello they were a lifesavers during my liquid diet. Well, I just wanted to wish you continued success on your liquid diet and on your journey.
Take Care,
Erika

I'm not perfect but I am going to die trying!!!
Alan- Good for you handling the LD, and seeing some positive results in the meantime with your diabetes. I started a self imposed mainly LD on Sunday and have already lost 4LBS. I need to lose 6 more by my pre op class on the 13th.
How many calories are you getting with the Glucerna shakes? I've been staying around 1000 or less with my plan. I'm not sure if that's too little or too much to get the job done for me.
