Zipp-ee-dee-doo......what?! (funny!)

Hi friends, thank you so much for the cards, calls, PM messages, during this horrendous plastic surgery experience!  have been at the nursing home (only a mile from my apartment) since Friday evening.  Am hoping, hoping, hoping to be released back home this weekend.  Have written several books worth of humorous notes from this experience, first the initial six nights at the hospital, then the three-night return home, then return three nights to hospital, and this unique experience recovering with physical and occupational therapy at the nursing home since Friday evening.  Please know this is all in good humor, and not a pity party (smile and chuckle).  Am going flippin' nuts from boredom with 'basic' cable TV and no computer access-- unless I get a ride to my place from my dear neighbor.  (Cannot wait to post "I'm home!"------soon!

Had follow-up appt with plastic surgeon yesterday.  He removed the second JP (external)  drainage tube and 'bulb'!  Also, removed the internal plastic piece and that suture opening is wider than should be.  Actually, I have a Grand Canyon opening on the groin line, and two other openings along the right thigh.  I'm confused why they're open, and if the drain gaping hole doesn't close back on its own, he'll surgically close (it)/them is OR, though unsure when.  It hurts so bad, and it's worse, because I can see into the holes.  These are included with the reasons I did not go into nursing school----aaaaach!  (I'm laughing albeit nervously!)

Came home to do two small loads of laundry earlier, and that was just exhausting.  Don't have the energy to do anything more than catch a couple Emails, and get a quick update posted.  Haven't even read the boards (OFF, plastics, MN) and am way outta touch.  If I feel up to an hour visit, will take a cab over to the Depot Saturday morning.  Will have to check to ensure it's the one here by my home/nursing home.  Gotta get things closed up here and get back to the land of 'golden living' by seven.  Has been extremely interesting, having had worked professioanlly at three HMOs from '93 - '03, then working part-time almost five years at a premier assisted-living facility, and now, being a cognizant patient at a nursing home for post-surgical rehabilitation.  Am feeling like 'Norma Rae', with pics and documentation for too many things there which gotta be against the law if exposed....if not, will turn it into a novel, called The Residence (residents).  May be hilarious, or may be a 'whistle blower'......stay tuned.  Too funny and too alarming.  For example, most of the  'foreign-born' nurses have no idea how to do an ace wrap (I learned in junior high health class), so the foot part stays intact instead of unwrapping, causing safety hazard.  Yesterday, found one of the little metal fasteners in the crotch of my underwear), and more.....will save that humor for the book(s!)  Sorry so long----am finally using my brain and will save it for doing  crosswords from the Trib when I get back over to the land of 'golden living'.

Wishing the best to each of you!  Hugs, Patti

You're doing okay, Patti-tat-too!   I'm glad you're keeping a positive mind set about this experience, and next summer, when you're flaunting your beautiful tweaked body, this will all be like a bad dream!

Keeping you in thought and prayers~

hey woman-I have been following your adventure...glad to know you are at least feeling well enough to laugh and be bored.  I have heard that PS is more painful than WLS-sounds like it, for sure!!  Yup, we will be at the Depot on Saturday, up in your neck o' the woods.  Hope to see you there-getting out and seeing people would be good for you!!

take care-can't wait to see the book!!

Hey Lynn,  yep, if a person didn't laugh through the pain, nor 'ride' along with the pain meds, it would be very boring indeed! Wow, PS is far more painful than my laproscopic RNY w/gall bladder removal, when I'd been off all pain meds in three days. Am feeling like a 'junkie', as every three to four hours, the bod's screaming for some relief .  Saw the Depot Saturday morning crossing Excelsior going home, though hadn't read the board to see who'd be there, nor did I feel up to being there more than an hour for sure.  And would've hobbled in with the walker, ace wrapped from feet to groin.....nobody would've owned up to knowing me! Am off work indefinitely, so hoping to be up to next weekend's coffee.  Ooopsie, am dozing off here again, so will get legs elevated....have a 'good' week and sure hope to see your sunshiny face soon!  Hugs, Patti

Hey Sandie, am finally catching up on the boards.  You're positivity and cheer leading is so uplifting and  appreciated!  Hey, we'll all celebrate new successes soon, as I'm putting together information for a 2nd annual Larsmont Cottages Resort weekend likely in February.  Will post soon--being home-bound for the indefinite duration, I gotta keep busy, and that's a fun  to-do!  Gotta exceed last year's numbers and fun, huh?  Hope you got my PM request for our mutual friend's Email contact.  Take care of you--stay warm and have a dynamic week hon!  Hugs, Patti.

Hello Erika!  Thank you for your kind words, prayers and well wishes.  Second day home and sure sleep a lot between the required walking (all aced up feet to groin) with walker--quite the site, all I need is some granny rollers in the hair!?!!  Being home is the absolutely best, and the swelling may take up to four months (or longer eeeek) to subside.  I'm looking into planning a Feb weekend 2nd annual Larsmont Cottages/Duluth weekend--some swimsuit snow-angel making will sure feel good on these sore thighs!  Will post updates as I amass the information.  Sound like a plan?!  I say it's time to get that same gang plus the newbies together again--let me know your thoughts hon!  Stay warm up there!  I haven't ventured outside since returning home yesterday morning--being home-bound is much easier in this gray frigid crud!  Take care of you, keep that smile on your face cuz it sure looks great on you!  Hugs right back at'cha hon!  Patti (wheeeeew, feels great having time/energy to color this up with emoticons
