Hello, I am new here and am in the pre-op stages of my journey, I am enjoying looking around on here and learning new things. Is there just one thing you wish you would have known, been told about, or would have thought about before surgery? I am just curious if there are things I am not thinking about. I could use a friend to go through my journey with that has "been there"! Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all more!

Hi Linda- I'm still pre-op. Where are you in the process? I see you're going through Dr Benn!  Yea- Another Fairview person.    Glad you posted, there's lots of help and support here.  Where are you from?

Well, I went to the info meeting, went to the pyschologist this week for the test, scheduled Dec. 10th to meet w/ Dietican and PA, but on cancellation list so hopefully will get there sooner, if not than my thoughts are, it will happen when it is to happen! I am from Winthrop, have you heard of the town? Small!!!! Where are you in the process and where do you live?  I am looking forward to chatting w/ others that are going through the same thing as I am finding although I have a great support system at home, some might not quite understand like someone that is going through this or already has gone through it.

This is random, but seriously?  The one thing that really blind-sided me was the fact that I was 19 pounds UP at my 1 week post-op check!!!  I mean, NO WHERE did I read ANYTHING about that, and I was seriously FREAKED OUT!

So, for your notes - you will have an IV putting fluids into your system from the time you arrive in pre-op until you are discharged from the hospital.  And you'll probably be consuming liquids while you're there as well.  So LOTS of people find themselve UP at their first post-op!  But not to worry, all that fluid weight is gone VERY quickly after!

(My 19 lbs was probably an extreme, but I had some extra "work" done while I was under, spent 3 nights instead of 2...)

WELCOME and DON'T BE A STRANGER!!!

Hi I am using Fairview Southdale Dr. Benn. Did everything go like they say it will during surgery and immediately after words? How has it been the last week or so? I am scared of the liquid diet and not feeling good w/ out eating??!!

One thing "for me" would be that I wish I would have known what an emotional journey it would have been for me so that I could have had couseling from the begining not when I "fell apart".  But then again I had trauma from my past and when your body "shrinks" your brain pulls up memories of when you were smaller........I had couseling for that trauma and thought it was resolved....go figure!

Welcome here!!  Ya came to the right place to find answers and friends!!!  I HIGHLY reccomend that you go to a coffee and meet others that have "been there"!!!  It's soooo fun!

I, too, had Faiview Southdale!  Love the staff!

The only thing I wish I would have known more about was maintaining after you get to your goal weight. I think it is harder then the losing!!

Welcome to the Board!

Ask questions - post your frustrations and celebrations - this is a great group and a very active board.

If you live around the cities - try and catch up with a saturday coffee group - they usually get posted for locations earlier in the week - meet some great friends who are at various stages in this journey.

Best Wishes on your journey!
