Well I got hit with both barrels today my boss told me I will be going on 24/7 coverage when I get back from my surgery. This has put me in a serious tail spin and I really FEEL like giving up and ordering some food and pigging out. This has me very depressed, not what I needed one week before surgery. I'm sitting here thinking why even try anymore, I have been an emotional eater and I'm missing my friend right now. I'm also worried that if I make it to surgery that when I go back to work trying to follow all the requirements after surgery will be to great. Please HELP

Don't give up!  This is the single most important thing you may ever do for yourself or your family -- you've made it too far to turn back now.  And the truth is . . . you deserve to succeed.  You deserve a long and healthy life.  Whatever challenges that face you (and you know there will be some) you can deal with then -- you don't have to deal with them all now.  If you end up with a screwy work schedule -- you'll just have to stay organized and plan ahead for your nutritional needs.  Whatever challenge you face, it's been faced before and someone on here has probably come up with a way do deal with it and can help you.  It's not going to be easy, but you can do this for yourself.  Focus on the prize . . . not the mountain in front of you.

I agree with the previous poster!!  She has a way with words!!!  Now, I *totally* understand the "miss my friend"!!!  So, I will say this:  In reality, *IT* is NOT your friend.  RIGHT NOW, you are on an emotional roller coaster.  GO EXERCISE!  Breathe deep!  Keep your eyes focused on the prize.  The going back to work thing will all work out.  It's not as big as it may feel right now.  YOU CAN DO THIS

Don't give up and don't go back to your friend.  You've already lost 18lbs, don't let emotional eating get the best of you and ruin all your progress.    How long will you be off work after surgery?

I will get about one month if I want that long. But if I take that long I will fall way behind on a major project that I'm involved with right now.

To go off your last comment "working on a big project right now"  Honey - your health is a big project right now - take the time you need after surgery to heal and feel good - without that you will not be as productive on your work projects as you want to be.  This surgery is probably just as big of a project or more - you are changing your life - you are taking care of you.  Make yourself the priority.

I hope this didnt come off as a sermon or a lecture- not my intent- although now that I re-read it I don't know if I am talking to you or to me :)

Tim, first off, PLEASE COME TO COFFEE SATURDAY!!!  Don't allow stress to get in the way of doing what's best for you!

If you give in to the stress you are facing by going to food, you'll end up in a vicious, nasty, downward spiral.  Mad at your work situation, mad at yourself for eating when you KNOW you shouldn't, giving up because you gave in, getting even MADDER at yourself..... DON'T GO THERE!

Baby steps.  Right now, TIM comes first.   TAKE your 4 weeks - if you have 'em coming, TAKE THEM.  If you can, hand you project over to someone you trust to have the integrity to follow through with it.  Be reachable by phone if necessary, but PUT TIM FIRST.

And if you do give in, pick yourself up, forgive yourself, get back on the LD horsie, but be HONEST with your surgeon, too.  Your weight loss to date might be enough that you won't jeopardize your surgery.  But you don't want your doc to get in there, see that you may not have been honest with your LD and close you back up.

Hang in there, my friend - you are strong!  You have to find OTHER ways to handle stress, anyway - not just now, during your LD, but for the long haul - food is NO LONGER your best friend - YOU are!  Spend some time with you, go for a walk, a swim, a workout, clean the garage, do something that you'll feel GOOD about after the fact!
