I'm home ... FINALLY!!! (Long)
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am finally home today!!
I have been at St Joe's since last Sat. I had surgery on the 30th, went home on the 31st and was back at St Joe's on the 1st.
Drinking right after surgery was difficult. Lots of gurgling and burping and it did'nt seem quite right. I went to my mom's that night and didn't sleep well and kept getting the foamies and everything that I drank came back up as foam. I called the surgeon on Sat morning since nothing seemed to be going well. He said it sounded like inflammation of the small bowel causing a blockage and to come back in. So on Sat Nov 1st I was readmiited on IV fluids only. I was not giving anything by mouth until Monday when the tightness and pain in my chest was gone...but as soon as I ate or drank anything the foamies started again.
Tue I had an upper GI barium study that showed an area of stenosis that the surgeon thought was from the outside pressing towards the inside. To completely confirm, I had CT scan on Wed which showed a twist of the bowel near the pouch.
The plan was to go back in on Thur and fix the twist. I was scheduled for 11:00am but didn't go in until almost noon.....3 hours later I immerged from surgery.
There were actually 2 twists in the bowel. Which had only happened to Dr Drew 3 times in the 1500 surgeries he had done...lucky me!!!
He had to cut the small bowel from the pouch, cut that part of small bowel out and then hand sewed the new bowel back to the pouch, so it was time consuming to say the least.
From my first sip after this second surgery, I know that it was different, that it was the way it should be!! No gurgling, no burps!!!!
I am home and resting well, my incisions are hurting quite a bit tonight from being reopened but just thankful that they didn't have to open me up!!
Dr Drew was great and was thankful for my patience as well!
Thanks for all the well wishes and am thankful for all of my wonderful OH friends that are getting me through this!!
Troy, Barb K, and LindaAnne!!! Thank you for all of your support!!

Nicole-
I am glad to hear that you are home. Too much time in any hospital can be very very frustrating.
I was sorry to hear about your complications, but relieved to hear that they figured out what was happening and could fix it before too much time passed.
Hope to see you again at coffee soon!

I am so glad that everything went through OK. Unfortunately sometimes there are slight setbacks, but it's all toward an amazing goal and you will be all healed up in no time!!! Rest up and congrats on your surgery!
So glad you're home and feeling better. Amazing how even though you didn't know exactly what you'de feel like after surgery, you KNEW when something isn't right. I'm glad he got you fixed up and that after the first sip after the 2nd surgery that things were as they should be. YEAH!!!
