FINALLY home from nursing home ..ready to catch up and 'give back' (long, funny)

Hi my dear friends, thank you SO much for the supportive replies and responses to my limited posts. Feel so out of touch, not getting to read posts, though will catch up as energy allows (smiling).  Can't believe how exhausted I get, even took several long naps during the day, and just feels wonderful being home (wider smile) .  The toughest challenge other than inept nurses, no computer access, etc., was not having anything even close to appropriate WLS food choices!  Way too funny, not even touching 'food' I wouldn't even give my cat!  Was fortunate to have a couple friends bring in real food, plus was able to come to my apartment just a mile away to get chewable food, catch up on 'real' Emails and make quick update posts!  Had been hoping to catch a cab over to the Depot yesterday morning, though the legs just get too hot in ace wraps and to put the 'new' roomy sweat pants on--always hated those things, so am more comfortable wearing t-shirt dresses from summer.  Not into making any fashion statements--all for true comfort.  Wish I'd had my camera to snap shots of a couple little kids at the clinic visits, me being in too-tight Ace wraps, from the knees down, and very loose on top and taped, not appropriately fastened:   one dropped from the groin to the ankle in the lobby, and two absorbent 5'x 9' ABD pads went down with it!  But to see this little boy and girl's expressions was priceless--Several times, the foot came unwrapped, and being unable to bend over to redo it, not possible.  One really nice (attractive to these eyes) man actually helped, re-wrapped the lower part, then was putting my shoe back on--I laughed and told him, I knew the shoe would fit, though wasn't looking for 'the prince'--was funny and fun chatting when we realized we were headed to the same clinic.

Got a huge scare Friday at this week's second follow-up with plastic surgeon.  He was appalled at both visits this week, my ace wraps were way too tight, and the right foot/leg was way swollen and tender to the touch.  He said there may be a blood clot in that calf and sent me down for an ultrasound.  He said if there's a clot, he'd immediately send me back to NMMC for IV heparin (blood thinner).  Oh, being thisclose to going home for good, I just repeatedly prayed for negative result and to be able to attain eight a.m. discharge this morning.  Whew!  It's acute edema (not cute, just 'acute') and have got to keep up the walking (still using walker and have both legs ace-wrapped from the feet to groin).  Too funny, there was so much 'hurry and wait' for services at the nursing home, I wasn't able to get up for the longer walking, nor able to rest with both feet elevated. (too amusing--laughing out loud here!)  With my many amusing quips about the nursing home 'skilled nursing' care, my doctor said he will never send any of his patients to this or any branch facility.  The sense of humor just grew and grew.....along with the swelling.  But am at home, am able to resume my eating plan, get in all my supplements, etc.  One week of gross deviation won't hurt anything, but just felt so lethargic in there, knowing I wasn't getting enough solid protein through 'real' meat.  Their cottage cheese had to have been 20% fat, and every thing way way too salty--don't even want to know what their 'meat' really is.  So glad that derailment is over!  Thank you again for all the support, and I'm looking forward to getting caught up here, being home-bound indefinitely,  and will being able to 'give back'.  Generous hugs and best wishes to each of you!  , Patti

Good morning (again) sunshine!  Feels great being on a 'real' morning rising as opposed to the ol' habitual all-nighters.  Things are going well, and home care nurse comes daily for four weeks.  Can't wait to set aside the walker and get back to work--am not the type to sit still and sit at home, but have a couple projects to work on, 'ya know?!...enjoy the day!  Hugs, Patti

Welcome home, rest, eat well and enjoy the snuggles of that fur ball who has missed you so much. Don't let the fur ball get caught under your walker or you will be back at that wonderful nursing home. Kind of scary that the generation working at the nursing home are our kids (well mine) ages and they really don't have the "care"(passion) for the people there, it is just a job. shrugs.
Take care,

Hey Kelly, you're absotively positutely correct about the difference in work ethic.  You're hilarious about 'fur ball' (Chloe) getting caught under the walker....and I'm off work 'indefinitely'  until able to walk without it! Stay warm you@  Hugs, Patti

Hello again Erika!  Wow,have actually been home forty-eight hours, thus all's looking good!  Current didbits:  Waiting for the home nurse to call so I know what time she'll get the open wounds cleaned, four holes packed, and wrapped back up.  Taking off the full leg wraps soon as possible in the a.m. cuz they're just too hot, feeling like the ol' granny stockings.  The PS wasn't kidding when he'd said this would be a four to six month total recovery.  Looking forward to meeting hollywood celebs at Hazelden after all the maxed narcotic pain meds to try controlling this pain--never ever felt like a wimp, but sheesh.....thank heavens for the modern 'ice packs'.  Oh, oh, don't want to become an ice queen either (gregarious belly laughter).  Have a wonderful week hon!  Hugs, Patti  ooooh, just got a slump and gotta go lie down....again...

Hello, Patti-tat-too!
Congrats on making it to the part of the journey that allows you to go home!  Must feel pretty darn good--and Kitty must be ecstatic to have Mommy home!

A nurse or HCA wrapped your bandages too tight?  Crikey--you ARE lucky you don't have major troubles!

Keeping you in thought and prayer~

((HUGS)) and
