OT - outrageous medical bills

Just got a bill in the mail from our clinic/hospital for over $5,000!  It says lab tests for my son...only thing I can think of is his sleep study test he had done about that time in september.  HOLY CRAP   The insurance company had said it would be covered and we only hurried and did it then because we had already hit the max out of pocket for him this year.  Turns out he did have sleep apnea and had his tonsils out about 3 weeks ago to correct the problem.....which only came to $2,500.

Guess I'll be spending my lunch time tomorrow finding out what the hell is going on. 

I was just pulling myself out of the doctor bill pit and thought I might even have a little money for christmas gifts....now it doesn't look so good.

No wonder I'm broke and up to my eye balls in debt.

If the insurance company said it would be covered, then it should be.  Chances are you got a statement showing what would be submitted.  You don't mention enough details re: your insurance policy for anyone here to give you any suggestions, I'm just saying that I've gotten many statements...even the one following my surgery, listing the amounts that insurance eventually paid.  Hopefully that is what is going on with you....hoping.....crossing fingers....

Did you have a pre-authorization from your insurance in writing?

Its blue cross.  I had called prior to and was told prior auth was not required for that type of procedure or for his tonsilectomy.

I'll have to look at it again, if it just says statement, then its not a bill.  I saw the total and my brain couldn't register anything else.
