I need a favor--WLS outcomes survey
Thank you for sharing your story! What an amazing difference in your diabetes! Your story will also help emphasize the point I am hoping to make to the professor....yes there are sometime complications but WLS gives a person their life back. I am very sorry for the loss of the two people in your life.
Keep up the good work!

Nicole,
Feel free to use photos from my OH profile - if you'd like the link to my web album, there are some good ones there, too.
If you'd like to use any of the content from the letter I wrote with my request for surgery, that's on my profile, too. Gives some pretty eye-opening perspective from a morbidly obese woman... How the weight affects the quality of life and such.
You can also share that pre-WLS, I was on 9 different medications daily - for diabetes, for high BP, for cholesterol & such, I don't even remember anymore, there were so many! And at 18 months post-op, with the one exception being Synthroid, THEY'RE ALL GONE! Not ONE FLIPPIN' PILL or NEEDLE touches me these days, 'cuz losing the weight has FIXED my health! From @ 150 units of insulin a day to ZERO.
Yes, there are potential complications, not that I've experience any. There are risks, same as there are with any other surgery, including tonsilectomy and probably even ingrown toenails. But to remain obese? There are fewer risks, but more CERTAIN health problems to be had!
"Then he told me that in the real world people have a lot more complications and die than in the studies." I sure would like to know where he pulled this statement from...

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Thank you Darla! You have done amazing! I cannot believe it from 150 units to 0 of insulin....that is great! I am sure you do not miss those needles in the least.
Yeah I am curious as to where he is getting his info as well. He is originally from Utah so I kind of wonder if maybe they don't have as high quality programs.surgeons out there or if he is like so many other people who only hear the negative outcomes of the surery and rarely the good.
Hopefully see you tomorrow at PNC support group!

Nicole...hot momma...you look amazing. I had the lapband done which is different from RNY. The weight comes off slower with this surgery so I think for the most part some of the health problems take a little longer to get under control like diabetes but I cant say for sure as I didnt have that. I had my surgery Dec 11 07 and to date I have lost 67lbs. I dont have the pain from the arthrities in my knees anymore and I also had incontinence which I know longer have. I went from a size 20 pants to a 11/12 currenly. I havent been this size for 12 years. I didnt have any complications with my surgery either. I felt good and was ready to go home that night but my surgeron wouldnt let me knowing I was a single parent and had a 2yr old at home. I was up walking around within a few hours of surgery. The biggest issue I have is I tend to get things stuck easier than most people even on things like soup, chilli and those types of food. I hope this helps at least a little with the lapband surgery. Good luck!!

Nicole, I actually had a complication from surgery, and did in fact briefly "die". I had a bleed at the staple line following surgery. They transfused me twice, and did some scans and everything looked fine. I went home, and 8 days later, I was in septic shock. My story "I cheated death on June 13th" is in my profile if you want more details. However, after all of that, I am STILL GLAD I HAD SURGERY!! I have lost 130 pounds, I have no more high bp, no more GERD, no more IBS,no more pre diabetes, no more joint pain. I can shop in any store, I can do things with my family. I can eat most anything, just small amounts. I have no problems taking my vitamins and calcium daily, because it is just part of my routine.

Nicole,
Thank you for sharing I will go into your profile as I put together my "evidence" but will also share that even though you had such a major complication that you are still glad that you had the surgery and the health you have gained as you dropped 130 pounds.
Thank you,
Nicole
P.S. I hope you are enjoying the nice warm weather down there it is crappy up here!
