OT - Please Pray for MIL

Yesterday we were given just a few days for my MIL. We have moved her back to the nursing home from the hospital and setup hospice care. Her hemoglobin is down to around 6 and her heart is very enlarged and her breathing is very very labored. We were told yeaterday to start making the arrangements. How do you do this? We do not know what her wishes are, she never would allow us to ask or even discuss this. My Husband is handling all of the arrangements and his 6 other brothers are helping when asked. It is so hard...Please keep us and her in your prayers.

Thanks
CarolN

Carol, I am so sorry you and your family have to endure this what is sure to be a time full of pain and heartache.

Does your MIL have an advanced healthcare directive? If so, that will tell you what some of her wishes are. As far as the funeral and such, do what you think she would have wanted. It's all you can do, really. Pull together as a family and make a conscious decision.

I know it's hard to have to think about, much less do, but I work at a hospital on a critical care stepdown unit(pretty much one level down from ICU) and I see a lot of families having to make this tough decisions. Nothing about this kind of situation is easy.

My thoughts and warm wishes go out to you. Please keep us posted.

(((Carol)))

This is so hard......I've been there with my MIL....She passed 3 years ago.....Does she have anything written up? Will? Health care directive? In the health care directive it usually has everything they want or don't.......

Have hospice involved....They are great for when it gets close to the end......They sang songs to my MIL, etc....They put her at peace.....

Please call me Carol....I will be there for you.....

Sweet Carol, you & your DH are in my thoughts and prayers, as is his family.

If your MIL hasn't put any of her wishes in writing, then I would try to make it as meaningful as possible for your DH and his brothers.  Funerals are more for the survivors than the one who passed, anyway.  Choose songs that move them, flowers they know she loved...  If the plans are made from the heart, they'll be fine.
