Not sure if it ok to talk about this here but this is something near and dear to my heart as it has personally happened to me at the age of 4:

PLEASE, PLEASE, I beg of you mother's to watch for signs of sexual abuse in your daughters.  It can happen to anyone!!  FROM ANYONE!!!  Friends, strangers, and yes even family!  Sexual abuse has struck 1 in 3 women and that is only the statistics of those REPORTED!!!!!  When it happens to a little girl you must be careful in how you approach it.  They will feel that it is there fault, "dirty", ashamed, or have been threatened not to tell.  So, speaking from personal experience here are a few tips to prevent sexual abuse in your little girl:

1) make sure YOU have the sex talk with them and they are comfartable talking with you about it.  You can start VERY young with these talks making them age appropiate.  BELIEVE ME!!  My 5 yr. has heard sex talks on the bus and other places so little kids ARE talking and hearing.  MAKE SURE THEY hear correct facts.

2) make sure YOU talk to them about the "privates" talk!!!  SOOOOO important that they understand that NO ONE I mean NO ONE is to touch them there unless it is a doctor with YOU be their side.

SIGNS that "could" indicate your child has been exposed or sexual abuse:
1) Sudden change in personality
2) withdrawn or overaffectionate
3) siblings tell siblings things and watch for "shush" talk or behavior
AND SOOOOO much more....there are many sites out there to help so PLEASE PLEASE become aware and let's prevent abuse that can damage your precious baby for their life!!! Also, if you suspect, have found out, ect PLEASE seek help right away to begin a healing process!!

Sorry, but this was heavy on my heart and I felt led to share!  If you have a problem with this post please PM me.  THIS IS PERSONAL TO ME and I don't want any young baby to go thru this EVER!!!!!!!!
Hugs

Sandie,

This was a great informative post......We have to keep our children safe.....I have a 5 year old boy and the things he comes home with and tells me about are amazing....The BUS ride especially.......Our Boy's & Girls are gifts from God, and we need to protect them anyway we can.....Sex talks I believe are extremely important at an early age, once they go to school they hear stuff anyway.....And they might as well hear the truth from us.....

Great post.......Kelly

I sure HOPE no one has a problem with you sharing this with us - I'm sure your experience has played a role in your life AND WLS journey, bless your heart.

I have been VERY open with my children talking about sex, curiosity, and what is and isn't appropriate behavior for them or anyone they come in contact with, from a very young age.  Because I've been very open, as they get older I'm discovering that THEY seem unusually comfortable coming to me with their questions.  As uncomfortable as that can make ME at times, I'm very grateful.

A couple of years ago, we even had a level 3 offender move into our community (he has since moved out), and took Bailey with me to the town meeting so she could learn about that aspect of it first hand.  When we got home, all 4 of us sat down and talked about HOW they would react, WHAT they could do if they were ever approached by anyone in an inappropriate way.  I gave them some very GRAPHIC ideas of how they could protect themselves, and although they winced and couldn't BELIEVE I would suggest such things, I told them if given the choice between being violated or killed, and doing ANYTHING they could to defend themselves, they should in most cases do anything they could to defend themselves.

And now that my precious baby girl is a hiccup from her 16th birthday and has a boyfriend who just got his license, it's been pretty easy to talk about sex with her, and remind her that she should ALWAYS come to ME with her questions or concerns, because I will NEVER give her any advice that isn't based in my love for HER.

Like when I saw a light little hickey on her neck.  I told her that was WAY uncool, that she should tell her bf to refrain from giving them to her, and that DIDN'T mean putting them somewhere the old lady won't see 'em!!!

Thank you for reminding us.  You know my story too.  My sister and myself were abused at that age over several years.  I know it isn't something that I will ever forget.  And your posting this is again another reminder of why I decided on criminal justice.  I want to help kids be safe from the scum of this earth.

Hugs
