No opportunity to present info in class

My professor completely skipped over the topic of WLS and its role in treating obesity last night in class.  I was a little upset, but at the same time was glad that at least he did not provide mis-information maybe I gave him something to think about last week and he decided to do more research....a girl can hope.

On the same topic I am going to propose a research project related to WLS and mental health I am not sure yet which area I will focus on, but I am thinking about the prevalence rate of transfer additctions to the point that it has a significant effect on the person's life, improvement of depression/anxiety after the surgery, or body image post-weight loss.  After going through the chapter on eating disorders I realized that this is something that I am really interested in pursuing if even as something in addition to regular clinic practice once I have my MA.

Also I am going to write to the authors of the text book we use because in it they state that someone who has had gastric bypass will only ever be able to consume a shot glass worth of food at one time and there was no mention of other forms of WLS like the Lap-band, or DS and the book was published last year.

Hey, Nicole!!
I am just so impressed with you!!
  You're plain AWESOME!!

Amazing how text books--one of the cornerstones for education--can be so biased!!    Time for publishers to get THEIR heads outta their backsides!  Like OPRAH!! (She's sure porking up!--but we won't go there...))

(((HUGS)) and keep up the GREAT work!!  YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!

Sue,

Thank you so much!  I am just determined to be an ambassador for WLS as it is so grossly misrepresented in our society. I know that there are many of my co-workers who are suprised at how healthy I am because they all thought I was going to become sickly after the surgery.  The funny thing is in the introducation to the text the authors talk about how they all coroborated and gathered all of the most up to date information....well apparently not on this topic!

Well, back to work!

Hugs,
Nicole

Thanks Connie!  I have so much motivation with all of this new found energy and self-confidence I have back my zeal to make a difference in the world that I had when I was in high school and had a dream of becoming the first female president!

Hugs,
Nicole
