3) My mind has issues of still thinking I am overweight and that's ok

4) To be truely happy I need to love me before I can love anyone

5) God is in control so why fret

I learned that the toughest struggles bring the strongest friends.

I learned that my mind is still seeing me as overweight.  And I can't convince my stubborn mind to change its view of me.  It took time to get this way.  It will take time to fix my way of thinking.

I learned that food is only fuel.

I learned I can dance and sing and have fun.  I am Kelly - not just mom, friend, daughter, wife, sister, etc.

I learned I am beautiful.  And nobody can take that away from me.

I am blessed to have taken this road.  No matter what I've had to give up or sacrafice.  My life is the best it has ever been.

Okay, 4 years out and I am still learning...

1. WLS is a tool that you can go back to using when you "fall off the wagon."

2. Discipline is not hard to achieve if you really want it.

3. The problems in your life will be problems no matter what you weigh.  How you deal with them is the key.

4.  Excersize only sucks when you want it to suck.  Otherwise it is not a bad way to spend some time.  I like riding bikes and lifting weights but will walk if the weather is not cooperating.

5. If I gave God all my problems I would have nothing to look forward too!

1.  I need to deal with my emotions, not continuously feed the damn things.

2.  It feels good and OK to take care of myself both physically and emotionally, even when other things and other people in my life need attention, too.

3.  I love to walk, and walk, and walk

4.  I am not alone in this battle against obesity.  There are so many beautiful people here on OH that I have not met in person and whose beauty emanates from within, no matter what they look like on the outside.

5. I actually function best on healthy foods.

6.  Diet Mountain Dew is not the elixir of life.

7.  An indulgent diet of bad carbs puts my on a direct route to depression.

8.  I really should have gone into a caring profession rather than into engineering/analytical work.

9.  Since I am no longer the fat man, I need to figure out who I am and be OK with who that person is.

10.  I have to manage my health every day for the rest of what I hope to be a longer life.

11.  Like a three year old, I have discovered that there is great joy in pooping.

I've learned I can give of myself without giving myself up.

I've learned that this truly is a life-long journey, not a destination.

I've learned the more I see good coming out of difficulties.

I've learned that old, old friends are the best.

I've learned that regardless where things seem to end, there are always new beginnings.

I've learned that everyone makes mistakes, and that's OK.

I've learned that people most critical of themselves are most intolerant of others.

I've learned that I am unique, have so much to offer to those who'd only open their eyes and hearts to that.

I've learned that the biggest handicap is intolerance and narrow mindedness.

I've learned the older I get, the younger I am in spirit.

I've learned that what we learn in youth, we understand with age.

Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

This has been a big year for me - lots of changes, and lots of growth opportunities.  I have been truly blessed by the support of my husband and friends.

I learned that weight is a struggle, right or wrong, for almost every woman in this culture.  Our culture is messed up concerning weight and food!  It's no wonder so many of us on this board continue the battle!

I learned that I can, with God's help, overcome my food addiction and eat in a way that is healthy.

I learned that God is in control in all things, and it's best I just ask for and surrender to His will, and get out of His way!

I learned that I can support others because my weaknesses allow me to understand and sympathize with the weaknesses of others.

I've learned that we all have our struggles and our triumphs, and we're all just doing the best we can most of the time.

Thanks for posting - this is a good exercise to remember where we've been and look forward to where we're going!
