I'm new here and have a lot of questions!  I hope you don't mind helping me out.

Yay!  I know this is just the beginning!
I just signed up for an information session at Methodist Hospital.
What can I expect?  Do I need to bring anything to the meeting?
Do they require a documented weight loss history?  I know what I've done in the past to lose weight , what programs/pills/diets, etc but I don't know that it's documented with my doctor.  Will that matter?

Take a deep breath.  Ok, you don't need to take anything to the meeting except maybe a pen to write a note to yourself. They will provide you with a packet of information, pages to fill out and return to the office. They answer tons and tons of questions, there are no dumb questions.

One of the things you can do ahead, is talk to your insurance company, find out what their specific plan requires, BMI, co-morbidities, etc.

You have taken step one, there are lots of steps to get this done. I am 3 1/2 years out and went thru PNC, they are great people.

You DO have to provide a history of weight loss attempts in your application materials, but I think it's up to your insurer whether or not you have to prove/document the attempts.  I didn't have to.

Just take a deep breath, take a list of questions with you, and don't be afraid to ask them!  There can be a whole lot of hoops to jump through, or it can be relatively easy - it all depends on your insurance plan.   Just do what you have to, no matter how long it takes, because it is SOOOOO worth it in the end!!

Bring a pen and some questions -- Methodist is a FANTASTIC CLINIC. Think about what surgery you are considering -- Methodist does LapBand and RNY. Ask questions...many if you need to. Also go to the support groups - there is one for lapband and then two others that are full of RNYers.

I had Dr. Tom Jones -- he is a fantastic doctor! Good luck on your journey!!

Thanks!
Elena, I'm looking at Dr Tom Jones too.  I had my thyroid removed and he does endocrine surgeries as well!  I'm glad to hear you liked him.

Welcome and Congrats on making the first step!

I am one week out, and also went through Methodist/PNC and Dr. Jones. I didn't check out other programs, but I am really happy with this one. They have a really comprehensive program. Most of the appointments I had to go to were in the surgery department at Meadowbrook. They also do their best to schedule multiple appointments on one day. For me that was awesome, really saved a lot of time.

For the meeting, others have covered it. You don't need to bring anything. They give you a packet of information and a packet of paperwork to send in. It seems like a lot of paperwork, but it really doesn't take all that long to fill out. There are questions about the previous attempts, and I also did not have to provide documentation. I have most of it, since I had tried Weigh****chers 3 times. Also include any diets you have tried on your own.

I waited 9 months after attending the info session to send back the paperwork, because I wanted to be REALLY REALLY sure. (I am also a bit of a procrastinator). I think the time from me sending in my packet and surgery is about 5 months, but I had to delay some of my appointments because of work obligations. Also, my insurance required 3 months of appointments with a registered dietitian (all right in Meadowbrook).

Good luck to you and welcome again!
