It's Been A While. . .

Kim:

I have not attended the Elk River meetings...perhaps I should do that.  I have been attending the Men's meeting once a month down at Unity.  There is a fellow named Mike who had the band in September '07and has lost 130 lbs since surgery.  He posts regularly on the Unity message board and is a wonderfully supportive person who has at least a thousand tips and insights that your sister could use.  Mike even visited me in the hospital the day of my surgery.  I have his e-mail address if you would like me to find it.

We have lived in BL township since '84.  If your kids attend BL schools, my wife works in the office at Liberty Elementary.

Rick

My oldest is in Kindergarten at Liberty, I've probably met your wife (or talked to her on the phone) because I'm new at this school stuff (been a while since I was in school).  Vince couldn't be happier with his teacher (Mr. Deuel) and I really like the staff, they are very patient and helpful (so kudos to your wife).

I'll make sure my sister checks out the Unity message board when she's here, even though she is going thru Abbot, I believe the programs are quite similar for lap band.

I'm so excited and proud of her!

Hello Kim,

I had Lap Band surgery in March, I am down a total of 105.5 pounds.

A few rules I follow that I believe have contributed to my success are:
1) Journal, Journal, Journal: I keep track of everything I put in my mouth (it's amazing how fast calories can add up).
2) I weigh/measure ALL my  foods
3) I use 9" dessert type plates instead of a typical dinner plate
4) I use 8oz glasses for any calorie containing liquids (milk, cider, cocoa)
5) I pre plan my  food for the day and stick to it 90% of the time(3 meals a day, no snacking).
6) During my losing stage I went to the gym 6 days a week, now that I am below goal I go 4 days a week.
7) I weigh every morning after using the bathroom and before I shower (it keeps me accountable, keep in mind that the body does flucuate daily)

I choose not to consume any pasta's or rice, however I do eat whole grain breads and tortilla's. I don't take in any protein in supplements/shakes unless I am pressed for time. I shoot for 20 grams of protein at every meal which meets my dieticians requirements of 40-60 grams per day.
I have had 5 fills for a total of 6CC's in my 10CC band and have had dececnt restriction since August.

There is also lots of information available on the lapband board.

Good luck to your sister on her journey.

~Michelle

Michelle

Thank you so much - this is exactly what I was hoping for!!  I will also have my sister check out the lap band board for tips and pointers.  The basics will be the same for both of us, she will just have slightly different cravings/restrictions/results.

You look wonderful

Kim
