when I walk into a room and someone is really happy to see me.
when I catch my husband looking at me from across a crowded room and he smiles.
when my daughter (16 yrs) snuggles next to me.
just hearing my son's (18 yrs) voice on the phone.
when a person listens to what I have to say and is not in a hurry to tell me their story.

- The gentleness in a woman's voice when she knows its me on the phone
- A phone call from your kids when they just want to talk as opposed to when they need something

I am the LEAST graceful person I know when it comes to accepting gifts, I have a really hard time with that... but knowing that someone went to the trouble to find or make something with me in mind? That's incredibly touching, and humbling.

The story I will tell is true, no facts have been changed...
I worked the 7Am to 2PM shift yesterday. I have a bad habit of being prompt or even early to work. Lucky me walked with the day STORE manager, who asked that I straighten out the 15 pallets of wishey washer/anti-freeze fluid that are outside the main entrance.
After getting the necessities done--putting out the daily newspaper. etc. I head outside in my long sleeves to do the assigned task, which is part of the department I'm in. I take umpteen jugs out of the boxes, I straighten out the display, I tear down the boxes, etc. The temperature is -5*C and I had left my bee-you-tiful maxi coat upstairs when I signed in. I was working quickly enough that ONLY my hands and feet were freezing up. ((INTERESTINGLY--only women made comment on how I should go inside and get warm. Equal numbers of men and women were going into the store..)) My reply was that I was going to finished soon.
HOWEVER--where was I??? Oh yeah--The store security woman--by the name of Sandy, too, BTW--comes out to me and holds out a WARMED jacket for me to put on! ((Initially, this woman is intimidating--looks very stern and crabby. It has only been through chatting with her that I have been able to see her tender side.)) And I was sooo overwhelmed by her gesture of bringing me the warmed jacket that I wanted to cry! (but tears woulda frozen to my face!!
) I had been outside only 1/2 hour or so... Yup-- the jacket felt like had been warmed!! It felt HEAVENLY!!!
And even though I did not feel particularly LOVED, I did feel cared for!! May God bless this woman for this simple act of human kindness!
By friends expressing concern, by my kids calling to say 'hi' and chat for a bit, by my in-laws' hugs...
