What is happening to me??

I have noticed that I have been hyper-emotional, snappy at people who don't deserve it, and worst of all I have been hording food.  It is all "good choices" and I am not necessarily eating too much, or the wrong things- but I have to keep buying more and more.

I am going to see my psychiatrist tomorrow morning and am hoping she can help me out a little bit.  Has this type of thing happened to anyone else???  I just feel like I am losing it and don't know how to stop the spiral.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I found that I needed to change my birth control because of mal-absortion(sp?) anyway my birth control had always worked fine until surgery and after working with my PC I'm feeling better. But I did go on one emotional roller coaster ride.Good luck finding your answer.

Good thinking getting yourself to the doctor tomorrow.  Have you ever had your thyroid checked? When I was on too much medication it really effected my level of snappiness.  As of late, I've also pinpointed that EXACTLY 1 week before my period, I am a wreck.  Last month I had the worst episode ever, I felt like I was in a serious rate.  I walked out of my managers office while she was talking to me.  That's very out of character for me.

Have you been feeling like this consistantly for a period of time?  So many things can effect mood. I personally need something to keep me from being a ***** I hope after I lose weight, feel more confident, don't have as many aches and pains, I can back off the medication.

At least you recognize you're being snappy and can address that with people who have received the brunt of it.  About the food hoarding, don't have any advise on that.

Part of losing the weight is that the fat cells release hormones.  So lucky you, your success with weight loss is triggering the hormone release -- i.e., PMS.....This may be what a lot of people refer to as "you've changed since you lost the weight" --

You may also have to change up any depression meds you may be on for a while -- maybe up them a little or change them completely until the huge weight loss stabilizes six months from now.

It does get better -- REALLY!!!!  Just keep in mind everytime you are going to open your mouth during this time that this is part of the stuff coming out of your mouth -- not going in.

The food hording -- just go to the store with a specific list and stick to it.  Remember to keep addiction transfer in the back of your mind -- seeing your psychiatrist is a great idea!!!

Hi Reenie,

I hope your workout went well on Saturday after coffee.
I wonder if it's the Seasonal Affective Disorder or if it's the
COLD!  I personally can't stand this weather.  I dread going outside and tend to be a hermit.  It usually takes me the whole season to get used to it and by then it's over.  Also, what is your schedule like?  Have you taken any time out for yourself to relax?

Keep us posted after your appointment...TAKE CARE!!!

Thank you all for the support and good ideas.

I saw Dr. Mohan this morning (my psychiatrist) and she was amazed that my surgeon had cut my anti-depressants in half.  She put me back up to the level I was at pre-surgery and we are both hoping that doing so will help the fog of depression to lift.  She also recommended that I use my lights (I do have Seasonal Affective Disorder) twice a day for a while until I am starting to feel better.  The final thing that was decided on is that I will begin seeing a new therapist to help work through some of the main issues that were there pre-surgery and have reared their ugly heads post-surgery.

As for the hording- I asked her about it and she stated that it very well could be a function of the depression.  Even though I am not eating all of the food, just having it in my hourse helps to calm me.  Hoping that the med change will help with that also.

Thanks again,
Reenie

I stayed on the same level of anti-anxiety meds as before surgery, so I didn't have the mood swings.  I may have been into food hoarding, though.  I would go to the grocery store and buy foods that I needed, but when one only eats 1/4 - 1/2 of what is needed, it begins to pile up!

You could always sit and knit in front of your SAD light....that would be a very calming thing to do!!

Big hug to you
