I am Thankful!!!
Last Thanksgiving, I was released from the hospital after an extra night's stay after receiving my RNY surgery. While my family partook of the feast that day, I slept on the couch, not bothered a bit, rather, enjoying the smells and the sound of conversation coming from the other room.
It's been a year and a few days now, and I have lost a total of 123 pounds (that includes presurgery and preprogram wl), with a few more to go! If I never lose another pound, I am a happy woman. I am so grateful to everybody, family and friends, for supporting me through this adventurous year. I am so grateful to Dr. Jeff and his staff for taking me on and giving me a second chance at life. I have had a wonderful year. I am actually dating (not just hanging out with people, or settling for whoever may come my way), and I am enjoying dating! I never thought it could be so much fun! I am so grateful that I can move so much better than I ever remember. I am so grateful for the Wow's that still come my way, like going to the store to buy a pair of pants, looking at them thinking they looked aweful small and no way they will fit, but when I try them on they pull right up without a wiggle, and button right up without having to suck in and hold my breath. I am so thankful for everything this surgery has helped me learn, and achieve!
Once upon a time, I didn't think my life was worth the struggles. Now, I realize that everything I went through, all the physical and emotional pain, only made me stronger, and made me the person I am today (and might I say I'm pretty cool). I'm thankful that I've learned to live my life, rather than let somebody else, or nobody else at all, run it for me. With this sense of control, comes a sense of purpose, of empowerment, and of fullfillment. I'm thankful that I am going to experience more growth.
Of course I am thankful for the health and lives of those I love! I am thankful for my job, for the roof over my head, for the car that I drive to work every day, for the healthy food that is available to me with a simple trip to the grocery store. I am thankful that I have choices, and freedom. So much to be thankful for, that I can only begin to list them.
