Best place to get a real tree
My suggestion is - go to a tree farm, have a BALL hiking around, comparing trees, and cut your own down! This is ESPECIALLY fun if you can hold off until there's snow, 'cuz shaking all the snow off the trees to get a GOOD look is a blast!
when you get it home, cut another inch or two from the bottom and put it immediately in your tree stand. The fresher the cut, the better the tree will absorb the water, the fresher it will stay! This is also true if you buy a tree from a parking lot tree lot. And if you/DH makes the cut on a diagonal, this will give the tree even MORE fresh cut surface to absorb water from.
All the farms we have gone to are north of the metro, but it makes for a fun day! Get a tree, grab some hot cider or coffee or cocoa (most tree farms offer that), maybe get in on a hayride at the tree farm, grab a bite somewhere... There's a good one in Stacy, Goldenman's is between Elk River and Zimmerman off 169, and Peterson's up north of Clear Lake. But there are lots of farms, you just have to look!
I LOVE having a real tree - you can't beat the scent!! And they're renewable - it's surprising how FAST seedlings reach Christmas Tree size!

There is a tree lot on the corner of Robert & ? (where the DQ is located). They have some beautiful trees, but they are already cut.
If you buy a cut tree, always trim an inch or two from the bottom and then immediately put into water. It should stay fresh for quite some time, as long as you keep adding water. I like the auto watering jugs, makes life easier!!
