hi kelly:
IMHO you need to get a second opinion.  i had my veins stripped many, many years ago.  i don't understand, either, what your age has to do with it, so unles your primary has another reason you're not aware of, the thought of you 'living with it as long as you can' seems both bizarre and unnecessary.
good luck, kelly. hope you can find a better answer.

I would definitely get a 2nd and 3rd and maybe even 4th opinion. Neurologist? Find specific specialists...

Research your condition online as well. WebMD has a lot of good resources.

I am so sorry to hear you are struggling with this Kelly... you have come such a long way though... and this too will pass.

Thank you all for your responses..........

I will try the socks and see what happens.......If that doesn't help much I may go get a 2nd opinion........I hate surgery, so want to stay away from that if possible.....

Thanks again, Kelly

Surgery does suck, heaven knows I've had more than my fair share...

But you've got to consider which is the lesser of two evils?  Possible surgery to fix the issue, or putting up with swelling and pain when you try to do something HEALTHY for yourself?  hmm...?

Love you lots.  Try the socks, hopefully they'll bring you some relief while you ponder your options.  Hell, you might even start a new fashion craze - white ortho socks & hooker boots!?!

I have venous insufficiency that is aggravated by heat. Theorectically, exercize is supposed to help with the swelling but it does not help me. I use lasix when it is really bad in the summer, but this just forces fluid out from the kidneys, and this is really not the problem. So, in effect, I am forcing myself to be dehydrated to reduce the leg swelling. I do not have large vericose veins either and I believe that some of the swelling is lymph and not just blood. I do not get much relief when I elevate my legs.

I started getting this problem when I turned 40 and it was intermittent. THe doctors said it was due to my weight, but since I wasn't intermittently fat I didn't believe that was it. I still don't agree. So I got the pneumatic boots to force the fluid out of my legs (kind-of like what they put on you in the hospital). I haven't had much trouble with this issue since my WLS in 2004, but it started up again this summer.  Here is a link for some info...Chronic Venous Insufficiency

Good luck Kelly!

Thank you so much for this link......I'm on Lasix also, it helps with my water retention, but doesn't do a thing for the swelling after exercise.....Yes, I agree I'm probbly dehydrated everyday from taking these pills.........

I will go look at this site now....Thanks.....And good luck to you too.....
