You do not undress for anything other than surgery.  I can't answer for how much it costs, your insurance should cover it according to your plan.  How long will it take?  If they are not running behind....it will depend on many things...mostly you and your questions, him and his questions....the longest portion of the visit is probably the waiting room.

Don't know what else I can say....

Get there as early as you can, I think they start at 7 a.m. It's busy and it's a full class usually. Bring something to read or keep you occupied and bring some snacks and/or water because it is a long day!

In the morning, you check in and sit around. Meet with a nurse who takes all your vitals, weighs you, measures you, etc. You do NOT undress for this!

After everyone gets through this, then they take you up to the classroom where a nurse and a nutritionist talk - go through the surgeries and the eating regimens for after surgery. Don't listen to intently here if you're having the DS. They never quite get it right for our eating or vitamin regime. You'll get better information re: that on the DS forum on this website. Next, Dr. B. comes in and if you're lucky, he's on time. He will draw the 3 different surgeries out on a white board and talk a little about each one. He answers questions during this but nothing specific to you. That is for your one on one.

Then they herd you back down to the clinic and more waiting. Each patient now gets to go back and talk to Dr. B. one-on-one. He'll review your BMI, weight, comorbidities, talk to you about which surgery you want and that's it. He signs off and away you go.

You choose which surgery you want. He does not. He feels that you are the one who has to live with it after he does the surgery, so it's your choice. He may guide you if you're not sure, but that's about it.

I think I was out of there by 11:30 a.m. - it's just a lot of waiting around in between things, so that's why I say bring something to get you through that.

The chairs are wide and comfy in the waiting room.

Oh, and make sure you bring a list of all your meds. They'll need to document that.

My insurance paid for the visit so I'm not sure what the cost is. Danette should be able to answer that for you.
