Gall Bladder Surgery

Well it's official, after the hydoscan they have determined that my gall bladder isn't working and I need surgery.

My question is, anyone that has had the surgery, can you tell me how long recovery time is?  I am trying to figure out how long I need to be off of work?  I will be having the surgery laporscopic.

Will I be in alot of pain afterwards?

any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated

Dang it anyway...  I'm sorry to hear that, Jodi.  Let us know when, of course.  No advice here, just prayers and well wishes...

If it's an outpatient surgery, you should only need to be out a week. It's not too painful, WLS was a lot worse. You won't be able to bend over for a couple of days, so if you have cats, have someone else clean the litter boxes!

Please spay and neuter your pets!

My gall bladder surgery was actually more painful than my RNY (It was also 13 years ago) - but I was only out a couple of days - the pain was mostly from the gas they use to "blow" you up for laproscopic surgery - funny though it didn't bother me for my RNY.  If all goes as planned - I'd plan to have it like on a Wednesday and go back the following week - that gives you 4 or 5 days to recover.

Good luck!  You'll be happy to have the surgery..the pain from the gall stones was WAY worse than anything afterward!

Oh No that is a bummer but at least now you know what is the problem. I'll send thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

I actually dont have gall stones...I have sludge...which is a pudding consistency liquid that is sitting in my gall bladder, preventing it from working.

Thanks for all the support and prayers...I will be glad when it's over

I had mine out about a yaer before my RNY. I had it done on  a Friday and was back to work (sitting job) the next Wednesday. I was still a little sore but not bad.
Good Luck!

Sorry to hear that you have to go thru this!  I was in the hospital for 4 days before they figured out it was the gall bladder.  And due to that I had not eaten that whole four days they kept me one night to make sure I could keep food down.  After the grogg from anestesia wore off I felt soooo much better right away!!  Course, ya will be a bit sore but feel better.  Time off depends on the type of job you have.  At the time of mine I stood alot so I was back to work in a week or was it two????
Best to ya and keep us posted!!!

I had mine out 2 yrs ago- the day before xmas eve.  Its the only surgery I had where I felt better when I woke up than I did before going under.  My surg was on a Saturday and I went back to work on Wendesday- to a desk job.

My pain was very tolerable and much less than RNY.
