This icky taste in my mouth

A very small issue, but how long does this awful taste in my mouth last? I understand it's from ketosis. Will it last through the first year? Do I need to buy a bucket of mints?

And can other people smell it on my breath?

Thank you!!!!!

Anna,

That icky taste is awful. At 3 1/2 years out I still use it now and then.

I found that using a tongue scraper, available at wal-mart, walgreens, etc in the toothbrush area will help alot.  It is tough to get the "film off" but it really helps. I would use it as soon as I got up in the morning and then brush my tongue with toothpaste. Repeating as often as needed.  Gargling also helped for me.

Just know, this is a sign that your tool is working overtime and you will/are going to be seeing big changes.

Hope this helps,
Karen

Thanks, Karen! That helps a lot. I am going to Target this afternoon anyway so I will pick up a tongue scraper.

Sometimes the taste just overwhelms me. Ewww.

Thanks again!

That was the worst taste I've ever had!  For me, it went away after a couple of months.  It does creep back from time to time.  It sort of depends on what I eat.  I used sf gum to battle the taste.  Some doctors will say that is a big no-no because you may swallow it.  But it is what worked for me.  And at times I also throw a tic tac in my mouth to kill the horrible taste.

It was awful!  I hear ya!

Watch out for eating too many sugar free mints with "sugar alcohol" in them. Read the label, gas and loose stools may occur.

I really like Biotene mouth rinse. I think they have a spray too.  I hate how dry my mouth feels after something like scope or listerine, I guess because of the alcohol. I don't think Biotene has any.

You'll probably go through an "assortment" of icky tastes.  I distinctly remember the metallic taste from water - ugh!!!

I just recommend brushing your tongue, along with your teeth.  Mints might help, but sometimes they can be overpowering.

Aside from a clean mouth and tongue:  Listerine Pocket Mist--comes in Cool Mint or Spearmint. This will definitely allay your concerns.  (s/f gum will mask/cause bad breath just like sugar will.)  Just a suggestion--you decide and I believe others will only smell your breath if you invade their personal space, or if you have tooth decay.  All the best to you....
