How is your 2nd week out of surgery going?  Things getting better?

Hey, Stephanie!  Thanks for asking! And now, more information than you wanted!

This week is better but not. Diarrhea is down to 2 times a day. Pain is gone. But I'm still so exhausted. I still can't believe how tiring a shower is. And I almost fell 3 times in the shower yesterday. Thank goodness I just have a shower stall--no real danger. I think I'm going to use my shower chair for the next week or so. I don't like using it because it fills the whole shower but yesterday's shower was that bad.

The fatigue is getting worse. I went to Target and to get my oil changed on Monday. Didn't think it would be that big of deal but it completely wrecked me the next day.

I'm hoping a lot of this will change as of today. I have my 1-week appointment today. And I get to start pureed foods and start my vitamins. That's got to give me more energy. As of today, I've been on clear liquids for 12 days. No wonder I'm losing a pound or two a day!

On the plus side, I've lost 13.6 pounds since surgery, for a total of 43.6 with my preop loss.

I hope I didn't scare you Stephanie. I talked to my friend Kathy a few days ago and she had absolutely no problems or major fatigue. She's 18 months out and never had any problems.  I hate her. You are upbeat and smiley like her, I bet your surgery goes like hers!

I'll let you know how my appointment goes.

Anna

Well, it sounds like things are slowly, but surely getting better!  Don't worry, not much scares me...I'm up for anything!  Not to say I would enjoy some situations, but BRING IT!!!

Talked to my surgeons office today and was told that the nurse has a backlog of evals to go through, so my info definitely will not be sent to insurance this week.  Plus I'm working with my PCP to write a letter on my behalf.  Of course, she is out of the office the rest of this week.

What does it feel like post-op as far as being hungry?  Are you?  Or are people so preoccupied with side effects that you don't even think about it?  Does sipping liquid satisfy/fill your pouch enough to get you through the day?

I'm not hungry at all. My understanding is that lasts 2-3 months. What has bothered me sometimes is mouth hunger. I used food for comfort before surgery and now I can't, especially because of my delightful week of clear liquids. I have to admit I think I'm fetishizing scrambled eggs right now since I get to change over to pureed foods today and I would love some warm food.

I don't know what your surgeon requires but you may start out on a full liquid so you may get some more satisfying foods from the get-go. I hate being thirsty so I keep sipping. That's the only thing I feel a lack of...dry mouth, etc. when I'm not sipping enough. The water can make me feel pretty full but since I'm not hungry anyway, it's not really satisfying any need besides thirst.

I'm so excited that you'll be submitted to insurance soon. For some reason I thought you had to go through more medically supervised weight loss or dietitian's visits or something. Such a relief when you get approved. You can finally start mentally preparing yourself.
