How many have joined a Gym?

And how many like it???

Hi all. I've been so busy the past few months, I haven't even been lurking! Hope everyone is doing and feeling great! Congrats to all that have had a wow, joined the bench, etc.

Everything is moving right along with my weight loss, but since it's been cold, I've stopped moving and I'm noticing things aside from feeling "soft"...I'm moody          up and down with emotions and I can't stand it! I'm sure DH and my son LOVE it!

It occurred to me last night that at my last psych appointment, he told me and DH that if I didn't exercise, my moods could be like PMSing EVERY DAY. OMG! That is how I feel lately...cranky and blah.  I'm also worried that I'm burning muscle and not just fat. Well, I'm looking into getting a gym membership but, I have never done that before and am worried I won't like it.

So, I'm taking a poll...how many like to    at a gym and how many like being home on an eliptical or treadmill better?

Thanks for all your wise words!

Heidi

Hey beautiful!  Good to see you last week.  I'll call you on Sunday for coffee.

I joined a gym.

Canceled a year ago.

I liked it.  It was at the YMCA right down the street from our house.  I preferred the Y because there weren't all the skinny minnys there.  Real people, as I would call them.  But I canceled when the weather got nice out.  Now I just find that I get just as much of a workout walking briskly at a shopping mall.  Don't bring the purse and its free.  And we needed to cut back on the expenses as well.  So that extra $90/month was a bit excessive.  I do strength training/yoga on my Wii.  Which, by the way,  is the best exercise for me!

So there ya go.

I have a membership to our local Community Center which is only $20.00 per family. I have been loving it! I think I work out harder at the gym. I am much more focused there than at home with the boy and hubby! I think watching the other people motivated me to stay focused and work hard. Although if I can not make it to the gym I have enjoyed the Biggest Loser DVD.

Best wishes.
God Bless, Angela

I joined a "clinical" gym.  It is connected with cardiac rehab at United Hospital.  I really enjoy it (I am there 6 days per week) and feel safe because all of the staff are trained exercise physiologists and have training on how to work with people in all shapes and sizes.
I don't know that I would exercise on my own if I didn't have the encouragement from the staff and the other clients at the gym.
Good luck in whatever choice you end up making!!

I have had a gym membership now for about 3 years I was with a all womens gym and then we got to big and had to merge with a 24/7 gym and OMG I LOVE it I love the fact that I can go at 3 am if I want and be the only one there working out I can turn the t.v. to what I want and I can blast the music I want I would defenatly incourage a gym membership it helps to have a support group and it takes effort to go to the gym I know I can say oh I'll walk on the treadmill at home but by golly the couch looks alot better then my tredmill and at the gym I dont have that option. But you got to do whats right for you at the same time. Some people can't work out infrom of others (that was my biggest fear till I realized that people don't go to a gym to watch other people they go to work out)

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I think I'm going to give it a go at the gym!

Depending on your insurnce co., they may reimburse the gym for up to $20 a month or something. I have Medica and I go to a community center for $25/month so I only have to pay $5 if I go 8 times in a month (which really isn't a lot). I know BCBS does this as well, I would think others do too. $20 is $20 and it really helps to keep me motivated and going!

You are so lucky you have a $20 gym where you live. . Most memberships are a LOT more. I own a treadmill which I use  five days a week( Yes having it in front of the tube helps )
