When did you start exercising?

I'm 12 days out and I'm wondering when you started exercising.

Mentally I'm ready to start but physically, I still get exhausted walking across the apartment and a trip to Target requires a day of recouperation. I think this will get better as I've finally progressed to pureed foods from clear liquids.

I wish I'd had my surgery during spring, summer or fall. It's just too cold to get out for little walks.

What was your experience? I don't want to mess with my success by not exercising when I should be. (And darn it, why didn't I ask this of my surgeon on Wednesday.)

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Hey Anna,

I have to admit my first few weeks after surgery I just laid in bed, sipped a lot of water and relaxed.  I started to walk maybe my 3rd week out and it was a little difficult at first.  I was only able to walk a half to a block at a time and then I could feel my stomach getting a little achy and I would do this a couple of times a week without trying to push myself.  After a few more weeks it started to get better and I was able to walk longer without feeling tired and achy.  Now I can just about do anything and it has been about 9 months.

I also hate that it is cold outside as I have become pretty much a hermit.  I have to get better finding somewhere to exercise other than the mall.  If I go to the mall I will end up buying something.

Thanks, Tammy. That makes me feel so much better. You have been so successful so it doesn't scare me as much that I'm sabotaging myself. I am getting up and doing housework as much as I can but I feel like going back to bed right now.

I may lie down after I finish the dishes (they are almost all the cats' dishes...darn it, why can't they wash their own!?!) and take a shower which is exercise in itself at this point.

You may want to try walking at the mall with only your i.d. and keys on you. I've heard that can help!

I don't think you are sabotaging yourself.  The first couple of weeks you have to take care of yourself.  Your soar, tired, and your body has to adjust to the change.  If you have to rest do it.  I know they want you to walk as much as possible, but take baby steps.

I have to try doing something else besides walking the mall.  I really need to start saving money for that house one day.  I know if I walk the mall weather it is open or not I will spend my money.  I have no will power when it comes to shopping.  Especially now that I can fit into cute things.

Are you going to be at coffee tomorrow?  If not, I understand.  Have a good rest.
