OT: Anyone know Dental stuff?

First off, I inherited bad teeth ~ THANKS mom and dad! Now, just wondering if someone is dentistry smart? I am going to call my dentist today anyway just thought I'd throw it out to see.

Christmas Eve I was eating breakfast and ~CRUNCH~ yep! A tooth filling that was really old and was in the plans to get fixed fell out! Got into the dentist chair at 10:45a and it was fixed by 11:20a I was all done. AFTER 3 novacain shots! My lip remained numb until 8pm!!!! Anyway, ever since having the tooth fixed I have this weird weird aweful taste in my mouth! Any knowledge? Plus my jaw hurts. Yep~ I sure know how to have fun on Christmas!!

Jaw hurting -- normal from the novacain shots and the dental work. My jaw hurts for about a week after having any dental work -- that would be 1/2 a mouth of crowns and two caps, gum replacement surgery, etc. My teeth are horrible. The funny taste could just be novacain oozing out of the jaw. Keep hydrated -- best thing to get rid of the taste.

We must be sisters with different parents! My teeth are so loaded with the old mercury fillings. When I was in Edmonton last week I was chewing something and half the newest filling came out. THANK GOD it hasn't caused any trouble--yet. I guess my old dentist was better than I gave him credit for, 'cuz it's the filling of the tooth he had to a canal for. And even though the hole is a 'tongue magnet' (my tongue keeps going there for a feel!!) I have no sensitivity problems. This will have to hold out until I get a job with benefits.

ANYWAY--to your problems--my unprofessional guess is that the soreness is just from the needle, and the awful taste is from the novacaine. This shall pass.

Not that I would to even pretend to be a dentist, but my B-I-L is and my sister is an orthodontist (I was her guinea pig when she needed someone to work on in dental school!). If the jaw pain does not go away fairly soon, it may be that the new filling is to high and throwing off your bite. They may have to grind it down a bit.

What did they fix? Is the root ok? An infected root leaking out can cause bad taste. I had a blown root canal.. (Failed I think is the term)5 days after I was supposed to have my back surgery the first time an that tasted nasty.. I had a little hole where the infection leaked.
