Hi Everyone

So I am still out of the hospital (thank God!!!!). For those of u who don't know, I was in the hospital from dec 10 through the 17 because of a bowel obstruction cauised by impacted stool which I was also in teh hospital for Nov 23 through 26. It is believed that the block was never completely cleared the first time and therefore made it much worse the second time. Every three months or so I have a celiac plexus block with lidocaine done for pain control for chronic severe abdominal pain that is not well controlled with high dose narcotics. So now they are going to try a new kind of celiac plexus block. It is done with alcohol by ct under sedation. I was wondering if anyone has had one of these and how long did they have pain relief for. The pain relief that I have with the other ones, the lidocaine ones, is about two months and they can only do the blocis every three months. I am curious how long people had relief from with the alcohol blocks?

As far as I go, my doctors have changed my pain meds around and it seems to be helping better than before, which I am happy about. I am looking forward to and also scared for the block on Friday Jan 2. It is being done in the hospital this time because of the type of block it is instead of the pain clinic. So I guess that makes me a little nervous at how much more serious the complications could be. They told me they will call me monday with all the details of the procedure and prep but I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about it? As far as the bowels go, they are working slowly. GI specialists have a coupel of tests they want to do, one is a "tin foil " study where I swallow a bunch of pills and they follow them wtih xray for a week and see if they get hung up anywhere and how long it takes them to reach the "end". Also need to have rectal tests done? Something about seeing how the muscles work there to see if that is part of teh cause of my constipation, like maybe I don't feel when I have to go and also maybe I cannot push cause I don't have the correct muscles? guess I did not know that was a possiblilty? Well that is it for now, Hope everyone had a great christmas, I did not celebrate much as I am still recovering and off of work and my grandma is recovering from her stroke she had a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Alannah~
I'm so glad you were able to spend the holidays out of hospital!   ((I guess if we don't go through what someone else has, we can't/don't fully appreciate what they suffer through))

In saying that, I cannot relate to the extent of your bowel problems.  I sure hope the medical profession is able to help you on a longer-term basis than they have.  My goodness!  How you suffer from what most of us take for granted.

I am keeping  you in my prayers, Sweetie, for a resolution to your chronic troubles and for being pain-free.

(((HUGS)) and
