Getting my act together

I've been having a terrible time getting my protein shakes in and even eating. I'm just never hungry and I still only want jus****er. I swear I would be happy if I could just have cold water all day long and nothing else. Has anyone else gone through that in the early stages?

My vitamins have gone by the wayside the last few days but that's because I got a cold which turned into bronchitis. I know how important they are and I will be back to taking them all in a day or so. It's just been hard enough getting down my cold meds so I don't cough to death at this point.

So I'm basically feeling scatterbrained and unable to get my act together. I think part of it is that I've been really sick ever since I had my surgery, with my dehydration and kidney failure and then this cold/bronchitis. And I'm just so overwhelmed. I don't even have kids or a husband to worry about.

I have an appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday for a follow up from my dehydration/kidney failure hospitalization but as wonderful as he is, he doesn't seem to get the day to day stuff. So I'm hesitant to ask him for advice.

Any advice on finding a way to make this work when I'm so tired? I may take tomorrow off even if my voice is back to attempt just that.

Please help, I so want to be successful. And I've been feeling kind of like a failure recently since I've been on a 2 week plateau, likely because i haven't been eating and doing my shakes like I should.

2 weeks is not a plateau made. You're nowhere near a plateau - and you need to stop making yourself crazy by weighing.

Sorry, but the only advice to get your shakes in is to just do it, even if you don't feel like it.

It's going to take at least 6-8 weeks before you start to feel more normal energy-wise. You're not eating enough to sustain yourself.

You can do this!!

Please spay and neuter your pets!

I agree with Farrah 100 percent... its the " tough crap just do it" method.  And not taking your vitamins isnt an option hon.
The games are over and now your health is at risk .... get in your nutrition and vitamins.

Sorry for the straight up talk but I have never believed in candy coating anything..

Just do it

Hugs
Linda

I don't mind straight talk. And I only went off my vitamins for a few days because I was throwing up even my cold medication from coughing. I'm usually religious with it. But for 3 days, my coughing has made me throw up just about everying.

I guess, really, how do you force stuff into you when you aren't hungry? I guess it's the diet mentality, you know. Don't eat when you aren't hungry. How many times have we heard that. It's just hard to have the motivation.

Thank you Lindaanne and Farrah, for letting me know there is no secret, it's just focusing on your goals and making it part of your routine because you HAVE to.

I think I've just been so tired from being so sick that I did the least I possibly could because I feel like poop so much. I've been babying myself too much.

I'm off tomorrow because my voice isn't back enough to go to work. I'm going to bag up lots of protein powder and just make it happen. I plan on putting my worktime protein drinks and vitamins into Outlook at work so I have reminders and make a shake to drink on the drive to work.

Thanks for being tough with me. I needed it.

Its said with love... honestly....
In the beginning I was just to sick to my stomach to drink my water and I let that slide right into the hospital with dehydration...I know its hard but now you know to punch anyone in the mouth that says " You took the easy way out"   :)

Hang in there... emotionally is tough now cos the hormones are FLYING!!
If you ever want to get together for a one on one I would love to... after all I am my Mothers daughter LOL

This is the bad thing about having surgery in the winter - every other person is sick and your immune system is just not up to fighting off their germs.

Try to get calories in any way you can.  Try protein in juice instead of milk.  Sip it.  You don't want to starve your body this early in the game.

Did you get a prescription for cough syrup?  If not, try diabetic tussin.  It really worked for me early on, when too much sugar in the syrup made me sick.

If you like hot cocoa - try 1/2 tsp of cocoa powder in a very small amount of boiling water (enough to liguify it).  Add splenda and 8 oz of milk.  Nuke it for about 2 min.  Add protein powder (choc works great!).  I add a pinch of cinnamon.  Sometimes the warm drinks go down better than something cold.

I hope you feel better soon!!!!  See you at coffee in WSP Saturday??

I will try the cocoa tomorrow.

I did get a prescription. I had tried diabetic tussin to start which didn't work. So I got diabetic tussin with codeine from the doctor. But try explaining why you need sugar free to a doctor who doesn't get it because gee you aren't diabetic and has no clue about dumping syndrome, especially when you can only speak in a whisper!

I will be at coffee on Saturday. I am determined!

Everything is different now, and you have to DECIDE to do what's right for you and your body.  We USED to have a "live-to-eat" mentality.  Now, it's got to be "eat-to-live".  I haven't felt one lick of hunger, not in the sense we felt hunger pre-op, since my surgery.  Honestly, I used to think it took a special kind of stupid to forget to eat!  Now, I eat by the clock as much as I can.  And even if you throw up from the coughing, your body will still absorb some of the nutrients - and you need that now more than ever!

So like Linda Anne, a very wise, very tiny person, said, JUST DO IT.  Nutrition AND vitamins are EXTREMELY important to you now!  Like 'em or not, feel the need or not.

Good Morning Anna-

I am sorry to hear you are still feeling icky.  There is truly nothing worse.  I agree with Darla on the never being hungry.  I have all my meals and snacks "scheduled" and know that my body needs the nutrition at those times, whether I feel like eating or not.  Putting your meals/snacks into Outlook is a GREAT idea.    I find that the days I stgick to my schedule I eat better and feel better!  I was glad to read that the water is going well- that is so important!
I have faith in you and know that you can do this.  The stage you are in right now is one of the hardest by far (in my humble opinion)- getting what your body needs is a challenge.
I am also glad you are taking today offf to let your body heal a little bit more.  It is amazing what a day or two to heal can do for you.
I will give you a call later on to check on you!
