Psych Med provider question

I went to see my Psych Med provider at Nystrom and Assoc. I had gone in December to get my Depakote and Lithium levels and she wanted CBC, etc. I went to HCMC and had the blood drawn as I had another appt there.

When I saw "her" yesterday, she informed me that it is MY responsibility to make sure that "she" gets the results of my blood work. That her nurse did not have the time to follow up on it, nor did she check the chart to see if all the requested test results were on the faxed page.

Has anyone else run into this?? I was floored when "she" told me this. I have never heard of this. I thought that the nurse was responsible to check the paperwork when she put it in the file, not the patient when they come to see the doctor. "She" had told me that if there was a problem with my blood levels, I would be contacted. How can they contact me, if they don't even look at the damn paper????

Needless to say, I am looking for a new Medical Asstance and Medicare accepting provider for my Bi-Polar meds. Anyone with a good reference would be greatly appreciated.

I have left a message for the office manager at that location, and if that does not resolve it I will attempt to contact the higher-ups.

Thanks Marsha,

I was just so floored by her statement. Of course the office manager never did call me back, surprise, surprise.

Hope things are better for you. I know how difficult having a sick relative can be.

Hugs,

I have my blood drawn at least every two weeks at my hematologist's office.  My primary and my GI want copies of it each time.  All I had to do was tell the nurse to fax it to them each time.  It took a few times, but she got a note on the chart and now they get it every time.  My other docs tell me they see lab results for me all the time.

It's NOT the patient's responsiblity to do this.  The most you should have to do is sign a Release of Information (ROI) for the other providers to get it (I didn't have to).   If "she" wants the results, "she" should have you sign an ROI so HCMC can send "her" the results.  Sheesh...you should get a cut of their salary for doing their work, huh?

Nancy,

I know you have to do alot of blood work. If one of your docs did not get all the results on a test, their nurse or the doc themself would be on the phone with the lab and find out where the info was.

HCMC says that the regular work was ready fast, it got sent, but the Lithium and Depakote levels take longer to process, like 2 days I think.  So HCMC took blame, but still I think the nurse should have checked the results when the fax came in. I saw that the fax was placed in my file, they had to open the metal clippy thingy, take papers out, place the page in, put the other pages back, and close the clippy. IF ya gotta do all that, WHY NOT check the results?????

Hope you are doing well, see ya at group??
