Nervous about appt today.

Well, today I have my consult with my surgeon. I am not too thrilled about it, in fact I woke up this morning with a rash I'm so nervous. Today is supposed to be the day my surgeon schedules my surgery. However, I'm pretty sure he wont. I have only lost about 1/2 of the pre surgery weight needed prior to surgery. Its killing me, I feel like Ive worked so hard and for nothing. I have given up the diet soda, white bread (all bread for that matter), cookies, candy, ice cream, ok pretty much all the snacking, no fast food, no fried foods, etc…

My diet staples lately have been eggs, deli ham, grilled chicken breast, salads, tuna, string cheese, low fat soups. I usually make a separate dinner for my family and myself. I have been sticking to just eating the protein and the veg. I don’t know, I'm at a loss. I know I'm going to go into the Dr.'s office and be scolded for not losing the needed weight. I feel like canceling the appt all together. I really just don’t know what to do. I really feel like ive been busing my butt trying to get this weight off.

I think we all understand that dread at going in to the Dr's office and getting chewed out.  I remember it well!  Even now, that old tape plays in my head before going to see my Dr, even tho I KNOW he'll be proud!

But don't let it stop you!  I'm confident you've jumped through some hoops to get to this appointment.  So you haven't lost the weight he wants you to lose pre-op.  Just be honest with him AND YOURSELF about the efforts you've made to do it, and see where it goes!  My guess, and it's ONLY a guess, would be that at worst, he postpones scheduling your surgery date.  I would bet it's not a matter of cancelling, but giving you more time.  There's something that many of us here believe to be true - and that is everything happens when it's supposed to happen.  Everything happens for a reason.  But when it's your time, well, nothing can take that away from you!

And you have to believe - it's worth the wait!  Diamond Girl will certainly vouch for that, as will many others!

Good luck!  And don't be a stranger, okay?  Coming to OH is a GREAT way to keep your motivation level HIGH!!!

Don't worry too much. I don't know your surgeon but I had not reached to goal he had set for me by my preop appt. All that happened is I was put on an all liquid diet. Not to fun but it worked. Relax keep the appt all will be ok

As the previous posters have mentioned, the worst case might be that your surgeon postpones your surgery or put you on a liquid diet for a few weeks.  Hopefully he/she won't be too much of an arse about it.  The one decision I made before I started this journey that really helped me deal with the potential worries of not meeting pre-surgery weight loss goals, needing extra counseling with the psych evaluation, having post-surgery complications, etc. is that I intended to be relentless in pursuing better health for myself no matter how long it took or what obstacles were in my way.  Despite that decision, I will admit to being apprehensive before every nutritionist and surgeon appointment and that I was a model of impatience with the whole insurance approval process, but the mindset I adopted took the edge off my worries enough to get me through.  Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I am going to go. I will be leaving work shortly. This really is my last step before surgery. I have approval and have done all the pre surgery stuff. Just the WL that is left.
Maybe he will take pitty on me and schedule me anyway. HaHa.

Who is your surgeon? I didn't have my required weight off (10lbs) by the time I had my consult either. My surgery date  3 weeks after my insuranced approved me, about 1 week after the consult.  I did about 1000 calorie a day diet with mainly protein shakes, but some protein bars, SF Jello, SF pudding,  and usually lean cuisine for dinner. I lost the required weight in about 2 weeks.

I see you've posted again and you've already left for the DR. I hope you post about how it went when you get home.

Well, as I suspected he wants me to lose 15 more lbs before he will schedule me. I was not surprised, but still very disappointed. I really do feel as if i have worked very hard just to wait some more. I left his office in tears and went home feeling very discouraged about the whole deal. Tomorrows a new day. I will start again and hope I can find some way to get the 15 lbs off.

I can see why you'd be hurt and disappointed.  You can lose the 15!  Personally, it was very hard for me to take off the 10lbs they wanted me to-- I fought the "last meal" syndrome daily when I was in the midst of losing it.  You can do it!  Some surgeons require a 2 week liquid only diet. How about you try that and I bet you'll lose those 15 in two weeks.  People kept telling me to eat as if I had already had the surgery and that just didn't work for me. I knew after surgery I'd have the help of NOT BEING HUNGRY, it's just not the same before hand.  It's hard, but you can totally do it.
