I am with Kelly on this one. I look forward to watching these people change their lives and get healthier and happier with them selves. It is very motivating to watch and in fact I usually am on the floor working out while I am watching this show. DH Bowls on Tuesday nights so it is typically my 'All about me night' and I have the TV to myself and can act silly infront of it!!

I have been there too and feel for each one of the people on the show. It is TV so there are alot of things that are staged or done for the benefit of TV, but their lives are so true and we all can relate to some extent or another. As for the trainers, they are both very effective in what they do, yes, I do feel that Jillian is a bit over the top, but it is television and she is on a show. So they have to have some of that element involved. If she was nice and passive, do you really think she would have been brought back after being gone for a year?
Anyway, I love the show and look forward to it too....

As for the RNY person, it just goes to show you that people can use theri tool wrong if they do not strive to follow the rules for LIFE! He obviously did not. But good for him that he is trying again and he is now realizing what he has tought his sons.! I hope that this works for them both. Talk about accountability!! Infront of the whole nation!!! Wow, I don't think I  could ever ever do that. and my hat goes off to each and everyone of the particpant and I wish them all the best!!

Ok, Off my soap box, get back to work Carol, ok......

Sandie...it is a very emotional show for me too...I always cry....the memories are still so new.

I also don't like the yelling that the trainers do but I understand why they do it.

Love and hugs....connie d

I hear ya!!  It's not too easy to forget where we once were~ I know I never will nor do I want to!!  It gives me the compassion and understanding.  Ya know on the days I don't "feel" like following the rules I wish I had a trainer "pushing" me!!  Although, I'd probably cry!!
THANKS for your input sweetie!

I, too, watched the show last night for the first time since my surgery.  I figured since I'm jump starting healthy eating, exercising and drinking more water habits in the new year, it would be motivating to see these people work SO hard to lose weight.  I cried for the first half of the show because I remember what its like to be obese and to feel so helpless and to finally  have some hope when I had a date to have my surgery.  Yes most will probably gain the weight back because the show kind of a "quick fix", but no matter what, it is still inspirational to see the hard work and those numbers drop and the self esteem go up.

Sandie:

I watched the show, too.  Before surgery, I couldn't bring myself to watch it for very long before the negative self-dialogue started......you know, how I just needed to motivate myself to be thinner and, if I wasn't doing that, there was something horribly lazy and wrong with me....not necessarily rational, but it was how I thought/felt about it.

I would have to say that last night's show kinda pissed me off because we here know how much having a strong support system matters and, on the basis of one week's results, they swept the support system away for everyone but the RNY guy and his son.  Rather than identifying one "winner", I wish they would measure success of the group overall and reward them on how well they do collectively.  Yes, individual results matter, but so does the success of everyone who is trying to improve their health.  I will probably keep watching it, mostly because I want to know how the RNY guy got so big again.......it connects with my own long term worries I suppose.

Yep, I can't relate to the self~talk.  I too, was not happy about them being seperated and cried when they said goodbye.  I too am going to watch to find out more about the RNY guy but also for the 19 yr old boy(I'm really wanting him to have such a drastic change in weight and am excited for him!).
Thanks for your input!!

Other than the news and some occasional Sunday night shows, I rarely watch tv.  I've never seen more than 5 to 10 minutes of earlier seasons of The Biggest Loser, but last night I felt compelled to watch.  I made it part way through their initial weigh in, but dishes called and laundry beckoned, and before I knew it, Trav had changed the channel and I just didn't go back.

I may make an effort to follow this season, because I DID relate to the fact that these were some of the heaviest women they've ever had on the show, which would have been ME.   I want to see how they do.  I want to see the 19 year old KICK ASS.  I'm curious about the RNY man.  I guess the severity of the obesity this season is what caught my attention.
