Hi Sandie....I too use a sleep aid. I take a very small dose but I need it. I just can't get a solid nights sleep without it. Too much stress in my life!!

Love you....connie d

I never related my sleep issues to my hystericalectomy, so I'm interested to see if there's any correlation.

I've had issues sleeping well for years.  Sometimes it's RLS (not diagnosed, but pretty dang obvious to ME!), most of the time it's stress.  If I wake up just enough to change positions, I'm usually fine.  But if I have to use the bathroom (and with all the liquids, that's a given once every night!), I'm screwed.  I'll lay there FOR HOURS stressing about everything in my life that isn't going the way I'd like it to - money, my kids, my kids' friends, MY friends, even the drama we occasionally have here.  It's just not even funny how HORRIFIC these issue all feel in the middle of the night!

So before I even had WLS, I would take Tylenol PM before bed, and BAM, I fall asleep easy, and more often than not, sleep soundly for most of the night.  I asked my Dr., and he was fine with me taking it regularly, not concerned about addiction (even tho I have been!), and said it's a better solution than some of the Rx sleep aids out there.  So true confessions - I take one (not two) Tylenol PM just about every night, to AVOID those middle-of-the-night stress sessions.    And even so, when the stress levels are high, I will still lay there fretting.  Monday night I was up from 1:30 until about 4am.  It definitely sucks.

I can relate with the "thoughts in your mind like clothes in a dryer" episodes(that's what I call them).  Can I ask why only 1?  On those nights can a person take another if a wake up occurs?  Just asking as I just bought Simply Sleep(by Tylenol~ just not pain reliver)~ gonna give it a whirl instead of the other stuff I have. I HATE those nights!!  Last night was one (combo: show, trying to sleep without TENS/MEDS then getting up and putting it back on, then trying to sleep with wires, OIE VEY!!)
Thanks for your input dear!
HUGS

I only take one, because since WLS, one does the trick!  And I always want to take the smallest effective dose of anything I take.  I have found that on those rare occasions when I DO take two, it's that much more difficult to get up in the morning.  I'm already NOT a morning person, so 1 works for me.  For a while, earlier post-WLS, I'd actually just take 1/2, but eventually that didn't chase the stress away well enough.

It's funny tho, about the smaller doses?  All my life, I had horrid cramps with my monthlies.  I'd take as many as 4 Advil at a time to get any control of the pain!  On those occasions post-op when I've had pain that Tylenol won't touch, one little Advil liqui-gel does the trick!  I'd have thought one wouldn't do a thing, but apparently the weight loss and/or absorption issues make it work better?

Hi Sandy

I'm sorry you're going thru this. I am struggling with this as well. It had been going on for about 3 years. My gynocologist told me that having troubles sleeping is something that is common as women approach menopause. More fun  LOL

When we moved to Sacramento, my doctor gave me trazaone to help me sleep. I was very concerned about taking medication and didn't want to get addicted to them. Along with this the medication, my clinic had you go to a class on sleeping problems. This was the best class I've ever been to.  They gave you tips to work on that would get you off the medication. I did this, and within 3-6 months, I gradually weened myself off the pills. Now, I take tylenol PM maybe once or twice a month. I would imagine that most clinics would have a class to do with sleep problems.

Good luck to you and I hope you get relief soon.

Hugs
Peggy

Thanks!  I think I might as well chalk it up to my Hysterectomy induced menopause!
Thanks!

I am right there with you sista I can't sleep for the life of me and then I feel SO tired when I wake up in  the morning and then I feel twice as bad if I take somthing to help me sleep so I gave up on them. I think alot of mine is my weight its uncomfortable to sleep so I'm not gettin a full nights sleep. (my head don't reach the pillow so I use two pilliows and then its too high so its a loose loose and then I wake up with a neck ace 9 times out of 10) and I have RLS so that makes it diffucult and on top of all that I have an over active mind, I am hopin that after WLS things will change. I will keep you updated!!
