Marsha - my thoughts...
If you personally cannot tolerate ice cream after surgery, you need to be okay with that. Not everyone is going to tolerate what you can and vice versa.
There are a lot of good options out there for healthier ice cream choices, of course - the WW line, the Blue Bunny line of carb smart items, Skinny Cow items, Aldi Foods line of Fit & Active, etc. but at the same time, you maybe have more of a lactose intolerance issue. Not sure - I don't remember if you have talked about that or not.
And perhaps it's more the "one bite" for you - take one bite of the regular stuff or SF stuff and be satisfied. If you can tolerate one bite. Some can't. A dear friend of mine who had RNY has always been more than grand with one bite of things. Pre-op, I once craved a muffin from Caribou and I offered her some...she had her ONE bite and she was absolutely content. That was a very powerful moment for me because I always wondered how she could have just one bite. But she savored it and enjoyed it. Isn't that such an incredible turning point?
Not sure if my mumbling has served any purpose, but it's just my thoughts on the subject. If you can't tolerate it, don't be upset. Find another item that will work for you to get you through that craving.
Best wishes!

Last summer ('07), I had a few FF/SF fudge bars - DQ and, Skinny Cow. But the last time I had one at DQ, I had my FIRST (of only 2) experience with dumping! So I haven't had one since. I can have one taste/bite/spoon of regular and be fine.
And yes, it IS crazy how just one taste of something can satisfy the craving! When in the past it would have taken a ginormous bowl full - I guess absence makes the hear grow fonder? Or something along those lines...

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I avoid sugar, but one night my kids were craving ice cream, so we stopped at Culver's... I noticed they had sugar free frozen custard. I only had a few bites ( mostly because it was in a little container-frozen like a rock) but it was very good and I had no problem with it. I am worried about going back to old habits, so I avoid lots of things all together. Diet soda, ice cream etc. I can't even begin to count the number of Large Carmel shakes I have eaten over the years from Dairy Queen * UGH*

I can't either anymore! I haven't even had a bite of my favorite sinful dessert (dq pbuster parfaits) in 5 yrs!!! Which is a good thing!
I dump horribly from any type of ice cream...even sugar free (don't forget the sugar alcohols!). 2 bites if I truly feel I'll die without it....but even then I still get a tummy ache!
