Seriously - When will it get better?

It's been one month since surgery.  Maybe today is just a really bad day, but I feel like I have no energy. (Although I've felt like that since surgery, but expected it would be better by this stage)  I just want to crawl into a cave and sleep and wake up when I can feel normal.   There's nothing I can have to eat that I like very much. I don't look forward to eating AT ALL.  All of the protein shakes I tried and liked before surgery, I don't like now.  They taste gross.  It's very frustrating, I know that would be a great source of nutrition right now, ugh!  My program says I'm supposed to be getting in two glass of skim milk a day, that NEVER happens.  I used to like no sugar added CIB with milk, but not anymore.  Can't stand milk plain.

How long does it take for you to get energy back? I feel so BLA.

Hey Kristy, sorry you're feeling so down! I didn't have much energy my first month, and even today after I ate I felt pretty drained. I did start noticing that I had more energy when I consistently took my vitamins. And as for protein drinks, I got sick from them until just recently. So hang in there... it takes some time for things to get back to "normal", and we will really never be "normal" again!

Kristy,

A few suggestions- I too felt this way for the first 2 months, plus felt nauseous and couldn't eat more than a Tablespoon at my meals........ My family Doctor ended up checking my vitamin B1 Thyamin (sp?) It was very low and I had to get weekly shots for 2 months.

I also can't stand protein shakes......I drink the 3oz. New Whey Protein Bullet, it has 42g. of protein..........$3.49? AT GNC. It's tastes like thick koolaid.....It's not too bad, better than cough medicine.......This helped and still helps me get in my protein.......

I became Lactose intolerant, so I don't drink milk and have very little dairy........I make sure I take my calcium chewables........

Good luck.....Kelly

Hi Hun- Sorry You are not feeling the greatest yet-  It will come though!   I will be honest and tell you for the first 3 months I thought I had made a huge mistake- I had a lot of bouts with vomitting ( at leats 5 to 6 times a week ) and did not care for the few things I could eat without getting sick.  It took a lot of trial and error to find what worked for me.  Now at 8 months I am feeling much better- rarely get sick.  Some of the things that work for me to get milk in-  I make a glass of lactose free milk in the evening and mix no sugar added hot cocoa in- warm & Yum!  I add a scoop of Unjury unflavored when I know I need an extra boost of protein.  I also like making smoothies with my favorite yogurt and lactose free milk- again adding unjury.

Energy started picking up when I was consistant with my protein & vitamins.

Best Wishes Darlin!

Sorry you feel crummy. I can really relate. I thought I had more energy today, but feel exhausted after just folding one basket of laundry. I didn't even bring the basket up from the basket... Hubbie did! LOL

I too understand getting grossed out by the protein shakes. First of all, they taste bad to me, then the texture thing was horrible, and it was a bad situation all around. On the RNY board, I heard about this stuff called Nectar that you order online. I ordered a bunch of samples. . . they haven't come yet. I'll let you know how I do with them when they come. I have also seen alot of references to Unjury.
It gets discouraging to invest  a lot of money in all these products to have them only sit in your cabinet.

Everyone keeps telling me it will get better. I do know that things will always change. I'm confident this will be the case for you, too.  I will keep you in my prayers and we will go down this road together.

Kristy, I all too well remember feeling exhasted and frustrated with what to eat. I had some challenges in the beginning that I think drained me out. It will get better!! I promise! Make sure you are getting in your water, vitamins and B12 that should help some vitamin D is great to! With food options its tough being so new out. I would suggest with the protein shakes to but them in the freezer and let them get partially frozen it taste good that way. I was tired of drink the shakes and eating them partly frozen did help. Or with the CIB I would warm it up to tasts like chocolate milk. Oh and I lived pretty much off of pudding and yogurt. With the pudding that helps with your milk intake. I do not like milk and would never drink a glass.  Anyways, I hope you find something that works for you!! It will get better!!

I have found that "Chikes protein shakes" are really good.....they don't have the protein taste or smell to them. They are on the spendy side, but so worth  it. They are also running a sale during January and February.  They contain 27 grams of protein per serving. It says to mix with 8 oz of water, but I prefer to mix with milk.  I ordered the banana and orange powder. I also plan on trying the strawberry sample for breakfast.  You can order a sample of each flavor for $3 total.

No one said this would be easy (except for those uninformed folks who have never had to deal with MO), so now you know that for a fact.

I think protein drinks, to this day, are nasty.  But when I know I'm low on my protein for the day, I'll force one down just to be sure I'm fueling my body with the right things.  You don't have to like it, but you do need to take care of your body - sometimes, that means your tongue isn't gonna be happy.

Always be sure to get your water, vitamins and supplements in, that's extremely important.

Once you can expand your menu to include foods you like more, you'll feel better.

And once you start having issues with your pants falling down or your bra being too big, you'll feel a LOT better!  It's funny how much energy I seem to get from those wow moments!
