How long after surgery will I be up to having Grad. Party for Oldest son?
It is kinda Ironic. I have been thinking--inquiring and working on having my surgery for 9 months now. My 5th dietician appointment is Feb. 4th. I have passed my Psych. eval. She told me that I am sane enough to have it--but crazy enough to want it. The surgery will probably be april or may. My oldest son is graduating from highschool the end of May. He wants--and deserves a big party--in our barn if he has his choice. Anyway. My question is how long between surgery and hosting the party should I figure. Obviously if the surgery is 2 weeks before grad. I would need to put the surgery off. But how long is "normal" that I would be up to hosting a party? My older Sis. will help me out.
1st ~ Congrats to you on your up coming journey!! Hang on for the wild ride...!!
2nd ~ Each and every person recovers at different paces. There are some that can walk out of the hospital the next day and some that are in for a week. For me.. I was ready to go back to work after 3 weeks and that was with OPEN surgery.
Plan his party as intended... If your surgery ends up with in 2 weeks of the party then ask them to move it up or hold off until after the party.. Good Luck..

Predicting your recovery would be like predicting the weather. It may be sunny, or we might even think it will be sunny, but all of a sudden a rain cloud moves in that you didn't know about and now things are not so sunny. Or you could be thinking, my, there is such an overcast, but look, the sun is peeking through!
For me, I had open RNY in 03. I was ready to go back to work within a couple of days....I didn't, but was ready. Instead I just worked in the yard, putting up some slats on a fence. Activity is very very beneficial. The more you can be up and moving and sipping water, the FASTER your recovery will be. You will be tired from surgery and the anethesia, but the more you move, the more those things will be in your past.
A big party, apart from your involvment, will have other challenges for you, such as deciding to explain it, having you become the center, or whatever.
My 2 cents, plan the party, but rather than doing all the "work" have others do them. You can make lists, do most of your shopping before surgery, and just be hostess. Then let others clean up.

I agree with Hartz, plan the party and have others do most of the work.
3 weeks after my surgery I had a football party at our home after one of my son's games. I'd say close to 300 were here in and out over a 3 hour period. I prepared as much as possible before surgery. Had all those little errands ran. Had who I was going to do this and that organized. And it went very well. But everyone recovers differently. I'd plan it and just prepare to not be the one doing all the running all day.
