I started working out 2 weeks ago and in the past I have always done the cardio machines (bikes, elipticals, and treadmills) on manual.  So I am wondering should I be doing the cardio or fat burning programs to best help not get saggy skin. If fat burning is 65% heart rate and cardio is 80% heart rate, when you are in cardio mode are you still fat burning? I have myself all confused???

Hi

Either type of work out is good. The most important thing is to keep your heart rate up and to have it between 70 and 80% of your "high" heart rate. Your target heart rate will be different based on your age and weight. The treadmill I use keeps track of your high heart rate, your average heart rate and the amount of time you were in your target range. I try and keep mine in the average range.

As far as the extra skin issue, there isn't alot you can do to help with that, unless you're lucky and have good elasticity in your skin. I have had  about 8 pounds of skin removed from my tummy. My plastic surgeon said that once you get stretch marks on your skin, there is no amount of exercise that will help cuz it is damaged skin.

Take care.

I hear you and Anna have been hitting the gym...good for you!!!  Your pictures look great, it's been a while since I've seen you.  Maybe at the next Eagan coffee.  Sorry, I have no insight on exercise.  Well, I do, but it's not very nice!
(Kidding...no flames or flares, whatever that's called)

Hope everything else is going well for you!
Take care,
Stephanie

You need both! and be sure to get strength training in for two reasons - #1 It will help be a firm support beneath sagging skin and won't make the skin look as saggy and #2 Muscle burns more fat.

Good luck girlie and congrat-u-frickin-lations on getting a new avatar pic - I love it!
