How ironic!

In Canada, blood plasma 'is in you to give'. Yup--you give a litre but when you need it, there is no charge.   Here in Tucson, you can get cash money!   I went down to the collection station, 'cuz well, I am in need of an income. Posted on the wall is the rate of pay: 100 to 149 lbs--$25.  150 lbs. and over--$40.  Hmmm--fatter=more $....

I have worked so hard to break 145!!  Now I find out that it would be advantageous to my wallet to be heavier!  See the irony??   So--I'm thinking I will drink a lot of liquids and put weights in my pockets to get me to 150.  Wait--it's in the shady part of town, so maybe I should borrow my BIL's flak jacket.  But the extra $15 sure would be great....

I couldn't give yesterday because they demand to see your SS card--and my number was still in my maiden name. I had to sit around the social security office for 2 hours waiting to get the change. The guy laughed because I still had my original marriage license, from 1976. Hey--it was a GREAT year! Bicentennial AND I got married to an awesome man, God rest his soul.

I know---the lighter weight would have LESS plasma siphoned off.  It's done this way for a reason. In Canada a litre was taken off every time--but they were strict about there being SEVEN days minimum between sessions.   Here, you can do it twice-weekly.

AND BTW--I was in a store with lots of mirrors--and I was wondering WHO the thin lady was. CRIKEY--it was ME!!  Still getting used to the 'thin' perspective...AND I LIKE IT!!    :-)

And it's supposed to get to 73*F today. The mesquite bushes are greening up--what a lovely smell!  NANANANA!

(((HUGS)) and nice warm thoughts to ya'll~

Sue,

Who would have thought you wanted those few pounds????  Hope all is going well for you and that you aren't missing the frozen tundra tooo awful much.

How is the job search going?  Hope you have some good prospects. Enjoy the sun for all of us up here. The only skin anyone is seeing is around our eyes!!!

I took Nemi out yesterday and she looked like a lilac colored michelin tire girl!!!  Waddling over to the jeep. I have to make sure I get a picture of that before it warms up to send to my mom down there.

Take care,

Karen and gang

Hi Karen~

Yeah--ain't life just a bunch of jokes?  Who would ever have thought that being heavier would be advantageous.  I fer sure won't get heavier ON PURPOSE!!

I called the Alzheimers Association a few days ago because there is support group going at the hospita
l down the road and around the corner.  Figgered it'd be a good chance to get experience leading groups, etc. Had a meeting with the leader of that group and she mentioned that Alz. Ass'n is looking for a 'program manager'. She strongly recommended that I apply for the job. She was sooo thrilled that I was going to volunteer--that I'm 'sooo young'--((God bless her!))  We connected well--spent 3 hours discussing Alz. and such.  So anyway--I fer sure will be applying for thejob---nuthin' ventured, nuthin' gained, right?   And there is job opening where my sister works, and she knows the HR and supervisor of the section where the job is.

And the weather--gee, yesterday it reached 80*F!!  I drove with all the windows AND the sunroof open!! But if it's this nice in the winter, I won't be able to hack the heat in the summer!  I AM still a Northern gal--my blood is thick!  And I'm still hoping on making my way back in April, to tie up loose ends in TBay.

I bet Nemi was adorable as the Michelin person!

Take care!

Oh Sue it's so good to hear from you.   I was just thinking yesterday about how you were doing.   LOL it does take some getting used to seeing that "other" person in the mirror.   I still look twice and in pictures too.  73 not fair!!  Schools were closed here today we had about -46 windchill this morning.  I'm thankful I don't have to leave the house at all.   I'm not even working so Sadie and I are cuddling up together.

Hi Michelle~
Been thinking of you too!   I hope your hand/tendons are healing okay after the cat incident.

Actually--the temperature beat the predicted 73*. The thermometer said 80*--and it got too hot to sit in the sun on the patio. :-)  Yeah--it's sure tough being here!  I do
not envy you at all!

Yup--the reflection thing is weird--but I do so prefer this one than the OLD one!

I thought for sure this was going to be a post about a company in Canada offering you a job, now that you're in AZ.  Whew!

Haven't seen you post in a while. What have you been up to?  Got yourself a little tan?

HI Kristy!

Say--you're doing pretty good!  I'm proud of your progress!

That would have been ironic--getting a Canadian job offer after gving up EVERYTHING (okay--ALMOST everything...) to move here. I've been plugging away being Suzy Homemaker for my sister. She and her hubby really appreciate my housekeeping for them. And I have been trying to get them to 'lighten up' on their food choices, and I fer sure lighten up my cooking.

Tan??  Naw--I've been a pale Canadian for too long--and I don't need any more wrinkles to prove I'm in my 50s!  Any tanning I get is going to be from sitting on the patio under the awning.

Now that the New Year is here I  have been putting in new resumes all over the place. It does surprise me that there are not too many geriatric social work jobs here in SnowBirdLand. BUT I'll take any job offered to me!

Sweetie pie, just be careful...  Your formerly fat self could maybe withstand the vampires better than your newly svelt self can.  Don't drain yourself into some kind of deficiency, okay?  I worry about you!

Keep on keepin' on, girlfriend.  SOMETHING is going to happen for you!  God didn't turn your world arse over teakettle for no reason!

Just in case, I'll send you all my lucky email forwards, k?

Awww, Darla, you're just toooo sweet!  I'll be careful with donating---er, selling. When I tried to make my last plasma donation in TBay I was refused because my iron level was too low. I HAVE been taking the recommended dosage of iron supplement as prescribed by my TBay doc, so hopefully all levels will be in the 'sell zone'.  I would hope that the powers-to-be in the bloodletting industry would be on the lookout for HEALTHY folks and try to keep them that way!  ((BTW--the collection of people at the plasma place looked like the dregs of society--probably needed that few bucks to feed their kids, who were with them.  Pretty sad.))

I have a chance at a job at the Alzheimers Association as 'program manager'--just what I was turned down for in TBay. Wouldn't that be IRONIC???  I'm sure hoping....

Got my AZ drivers license--(and I actually look pretty good!) I don't have to renew it until I hit 65.  Boy, what an interesting group of people at the DOT.  Sure don't want to meet them on the road--and that's the people behind the counter!    I'm getting around Tucson with the help of mapquest, a GPS, and my sister's directions.  What a HUGE spread-out city!

Say--I'll take any good luck and prayers anybody wants to send my way!

(((HUGS)) to you!
