Biotin

I have very thin hair normally, and started taking the "hair, skin & nails", from Walmart, about two years ago.  My surgeon told me to stop taking it just before surgery, and I haven't taken it since.  My hair has started to fall out now, and I was wondering if this is the biotin that everyone takes?  How much do you take?  Also, what time of the day do you take it?  ( amongst the other vitamins ).  Thank you!

I'd like to know too. I bought some Biotin the other day, but didn't start taking it yet.

My hairdresser swears by it, and I have been talking it - just not too sure of the results, yet.  I had very fine hair before and it did really start falling out about 3-4 months post surgery.  Now 6 months later I have noticed that less is falling out,  I think they say that Biotin will not keep your hair from falling out, but will help keep the new growth stronger.  Maybe.  I take a 5000mg capsulre daily. (Usually in the morning)  I know some others do open up the capsule and sprinkle it on their food, but I have had no problems with pills.  You can buy it pretty much anywhere that sells vitamins - Target, Cub, CVS.  I think I found the 5000 caps at CVS.  I also did ask the nurse and nut before and both said the same -some find that it helps, others had no results.

I started to lose my hair after giving birth to each of my boys.  I found that when I took Hair, skin & nails, that I lost a lot less hair.  The hair that I did have was in beautiful condition too.  I have also used Nioxin products all along.  Just wondering if the body can absorb 3000 or so mcg all at once?  Also, I know that we are not supposed to take our multi-vitamin at the same time as out calcium, so when do we take the biotin?  ohhhh....I dream of hair like that!!!!  LOL

I took Biotin in the beginning for fear of my hair. It does not stop the hair loss just helps with the regrowth.  I always took it in the morning with my multi vitamin and then in the evening as well. You can not overdose on Biotin from my understanding. I took 2500 mcg per pill.

The hair loss does not last forever (at least it did not for me). But, it did last at least 3 months.

Best wishes!!
God Bless, Angela

Hi everyone!

I looked for Biotin at Target,it was probably right in front of my eyes , but I could not find it! My hair is normally pretty fine and thin to begin with--all started after having my kids. I am 5 months out now and starting last month my hair is falling out like crazy!  Hopefully it will slow down soon.
I would be interested in hearing others ideas on Biotin or anything else you have tried.

I checked with the girls in my favorite natural foods department and they checked their books.  Omega-3 Fish oil, Green Tea, B-Complex with Biotin in it, was the suggestions.

Sorry to tell you but Biotin doesn't work for everyone. I had super thin, fine hair BEFORE WLS and have been on rogaine since I was 16. My hair fell out from 3 months out through 11 months out. It stopped, but it didn't come back in like before. That's just one of the bad things about WLS that you have to deal with.

Sorry!

I take biotin 5000 - i got it at walgreens I think.

Remember to take the rest of your vitamins and protein and it will help too -

Part of the hair loss we experience at least in the early months after surgery is because of the shock of the surgery on our bodies and the rapid loss and hormone shifts we go through.  I am 10 months out and still lose some - but not like it was at 3-5 months.
