Mixing Protein Shakes

I don't recall this being shared here before, but if you already use this trick, forgive me!

To keep your protein shakes low in Carbs, blend with required amount of water & then add some Heavy Whipping Cream. You'll find the whipping cream is zero carbs vs. milk. And the shake tastes much creamier!

Also, if you're not digging your shakes, try chilling for 30 - 45 minutes in the freezer after mixing it. It gets very cold and I know for me personally, I tolerate them better the colder they are.

I used to LOVE McDonald's strawberry shakes, but give me a good strawberry protein powder, water, HWC, and the freezer - OH YUM! Very close!

I'm struggling with the shake makin'.  How much water do you usually use and how much Heavy Whipping Cream?  What protein powder(s) are you liking?  I'm going to try it exactly how you make it and see if FINALLY I find it paletable. For me the consistancy has been as much of an issue as the flavor since surgery. I like things REALLY cold too, or forget it.

Try going to worldaccordingtoeggface website. She has LOTS of shake ideas.  I've used several receipes from her site.

I've got a ton of samples I'm going through right now, but my ultimate fave is Champion Nutrition's Banana Scream. I put 1 1/2 scoops of powder in my bullet mixer (or GNC shaker cup), then add 4 - 5 oz. of water and about an oz. of HWC. Blend until smooth & then put it in the freezer. (Those instructions are for the banana scream...it may vary depending on which powder you're using.)

As Lorri stated, Eggface does have a lot of good recipes on her site too.
Just don't go overboard buying SF syrups and protein powders.

If there's a powder you want to try, see if someone on this board has it and is willing to bring you a sample to coffee. That works best and saves you money!

I think part of the problem is I hate it when the shake gets foamy. I have a bullet and maybe I let it mix too much, but I hate any undisolved powder even worse than foam. Ugh!

I have a TON of sample flavors and I did buy Champion Chocolate & Mocha tubs.  Hopefully this new method will make for a tasty shake. Can't wait to try it.

Kristy-

I was one of those who went overboard on buying SF syrups (though I did get them at good prices). If you want to try any of them, let me know. I wish they just added flavor but for me they make my shakes too sweet.

If all else fails and you can afford it, pick up some EAS AdvantEdge shakes. They are ready to drink. You can get them at Walmart or Sam's Club for a decent price but they end up being about 1.25 a piece. Still, they are good to have with you on the go, at least for me because in the morning, I can barely get out the door, much less make myself a shake.

I just bought the new Bariatric Advantage Vanilla protein powder. I'm hoping it won't be really gross. Melting Mama (meltingmama.net) says it's actually one of the few vanilla powders she has not felt the need to add anything to. It's a bit pricey but if it works, it's worth it to me. I'm going to try it tonight. Will let you know how it is.

i don't like the foamie stuff either.  I mix with water, then add a couple ounces of whipping cream (only stir slightly with a spoon, then) - that helps 'deflate' the foam.  I've noticed that some brands foam more than others, but leaving them sit and stirring once or twice, helps a lot.
