WOW moment and LifeTime Fitness...

Hello, Hello!  I have to tell you all what happened this morning.  I went to Lifetime at 7am (inhuman!) to do RMR and CardioPoint Testing.  The trainer was nice to look at (of course!) and very nice.  Anyway, when getting on the treadmill for the CardioPoint testing, he needed to enter my height and weight into the computer to get my results.  I told him that I was 190.  He kinda looked at me sideways and asked, "Are you sure your 190?"  Of course, I was suspicious, thinking OMG do I look bigger and asked him why.  He said that I didn't look anywhere near 190!  From a stranger AND a MAN!  I think I have been smiling all day.  Anyway, had to share that.

Now on to LifeTime Fitness.  Do any of you go and if you do, have you done the RMR testing.  This said that the calories that I burn at rest, doing nothing--calories that I need to take in to fuel the bodys basic functions was around 1300 calories.  He said that anything less and the body would go into starvation mode.  What do you do with that information?  My Nut at the clinic said that if I wanted to keep losing weight, I needed to stay below 800 calories!  I didn't agree with her as I thought that was too low.  Anyway, my weight loss had stopped and I attributed that to the fact that I was not exercising.  Now that I am exercising I am hoping that the weight loss will pick up again.  Anyway, how do these results translate for us bariatric patients?  Thoughts?

These resources may help you.

The first one is a site to show you your BMR, BMI, and Calorie counter. Once you know your BMR, you can calculate how many calories you need each day.

The second one is to the University of St. Thomas. They have a program there for underwater weight testing. They also do the BMR testing there as well.
I know many that have gone for this after WLS and find it to be beneficial. This will not answer your question directly about caloric intake, but it may help to put the puzzle pieces together with more accuracy.

Wow that is really low. I just had my Med Gem and my nut told me that I was at 2,600 at the weight that I am now and that when I am down that I should be at about 1,300 to 1,600 and that that was normal and that if I was active that is should be a little more. and that was to maintaine and I was told the same thing that your body would go in starvation mode if it was any less Excersizing will help!! Good luck with everything
