Living in the Tundra...

is not a very likable thing for me anymore.

I am always so cold. I have lost my layers of insulation! I know I am not alone, many of us are having that same issue. People laugh at me. 9 out of 10 times I can be seen walking the halls at school wearing my winter gloves! While in my office at home the temp is between 76-78 inside. I will be found sitting in my office chair, blanket on lap, gloves on. I turn on the small personal heater I have sitting on a wooden chair. I sit facing it with hands in front and rubbing them together. The warmth finally gets inside and I feel ok. I take off the gloves and I am FREEZING in a matter of a couple of minutes!! I am so ready for winter to be done, done,DONE.

Others have this problem? Does it go away in time?

Someone told me it is because our blood is staying in the core of our bodies to protect our inners as we are in starvation mode? Does this sound right?

I know forty million questions about one simple thing. It is for the most part my hands that are always frozen.

My biggest problem is with my ring and little fingers on both hands. They turn white when they get cold and hurt like crazy. The rest of me gets cold, esp when I send time at my bf's, his room is in the freezing basement.

All I can say, is COME ON SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's freezing here, and I too am sick of it as well.  I was so cold this afternoon and after two hours of trying to warm up with soup and a blanket...I took a HOT bath.  Felt wonderful, but my skin was red!!  I haven't even had surgery, so I don't know what my problem is.  Poor circulation?!?!

Here's to spring....

Stay warm!

I can certainly relate to this. I use to be hot all the time before I had the WLS infact never wore a coat in the winter. Now after 3 years I m always cold and my 18 year old daughter just says, mom eat a cookie!!!!

One of the things folks recommended to me before my surgery was to stock up on Cuddle Duds or the equivalent and I blew them off.  I've never been cold-blooded before and couldn't imagine that surgery or weight loss would have an impact on me that quckly or before spring got here.  Maybe next year . . . but not this year.  BOY WAS I WRONG!  I spent the afternoon shopping around for a few extra sets of long johns!  The only way I can get warm is to snuggle under the electric blanket on high and unfortunately taking that to work is not an option.   I don't know the cause or the solution but moving away from MN winters is looking better to me everyday.  Feeling like a side of beef in a meat locker . . .

Oh come on now, dressing like an Eskimo is SEXY!  Long johns, wool socks, sweatshirts - and I'm talking SLEEPWEAR, here -

The upside to all this cold comes in the summertime - I don't sweat anymore!  Even outside in the 80's and 90's, at ValleyFair or in my backyard, I no longer get drenched by my own sweat!

Gotsta look for the positive, people - when you're cold,  you can ALWAYS add layers!  But when you're hot?  Well, there's only SO MUCH you can remove, right?

I can completely relate to what you are saying!  I am freezing all the time, and that sucks cause I love the outdoors, and ice fishing has become a huge challenge.  For anybody, when the body is exposed to cold, the blood leaves the extremeties to protect the internal organs.  We just had so much more insulation before so our blood was freer to keep circulating throughout, and we were just more protected.  I live in sweaters and long underwear all the time now, and whenever possible, I keep heat around 75 (or higher if I can get away with it).  I wear sweaters over my sweaters at work. I am so grateful for what I've gained in exchange for feeling constantly cold!  But it is hard sometimes.  At least my boyfriend is a snuggler (and he turns his heat up when he knows I'm coming over), so I got lucky there.  Though he has mentioned that he doesn't find the long underwear particularly sexy, he is pretty understanding.

I used to love wearing shorts, and last summer I hardly wore them at all.  It just rarely got warm enough.  I used to joke that I belonged in the south, because I have always loved heat and humidity, now I'm thinking more seriously about it.

I think we will adapt, and learn to dress more properly for this winter wonderland, it's just another of those lifestyle changes we have to learn.
