I need some help and support. thought I was done

I am 5 yrs post RNY. I had a child and she just turned 2. I used to be on the go so much that having her (I also have a 14 &11 yr old)  pretty much stopped me in my tracks. I was so happy at the weight I was. 160-165 (depending on events) I am now at 193. I am trying hard now to change what I eat because I never used to be a snacker and I am not sure when it happened but I became one. I have been known for such a success story at my job because so many people have had the surgery since and most have gained a lot of weight back. I think I need a lot of attention on my way of eating and posting and reading on here I think will help me a lot. It will bring it face to face instead of just "thinking" about it. Any incouraging words would be great! thanks.

Well, the first thing is that you are probably still much healthier and more energetic than you were before your surgery.  While it is true that you have experienced some regain, it is something you can manage to overcome with some effort on your part and support from people at home and here on OH.

Iam only 7 months out and I have found that having support for the emotional part of this life-long journey is every bit as important as the physical discipline part (exercise, water, protein, supplements).  So, have a lean and let your fellow travelers help you along the way.

Welcome and congrats for doing so well 5 years out!

I think because you are at a much healthier place than you were pre-op, you have all the tools (including the main tool - your surgery) that you need to hot 'back on the wagon' so to speak.

Support is #1 for me when I am struggling AND when I am not.... if you can, join a coffee group or support group through a clinic to have access to other people just like you! Or at least post on OH of course.

I think you have everything you need now - you just need to BELIEVE and trust in your prior success... and trust that you are still that same person and can get back to the basics!

You can do it!!

I think that in some ways, having kids makes this journey more difficult, because it's very hard to banish the "evil" foods from the house!  (I'm making an assumption here, that some of the snacking you've been doing has been on things that are less-than-WLS friendly?  Forgive me if I'm wrong...)

Your older two kids are old enough to  understand what you've been through.  They knew you obese, they know you had surgery, they've seen you at your best/lowest weight.  I would give them credit for having enough love and a will to help you.  Sit them down, and your spouse, and share with them what you've shared with us.  That you're unhappy to have experienced a 30 pound regain, and you sincerely want to lose those pounds so you are feeling GOOD about yourself again!  I don't believe you'd even have to ask them for any particular action, unless you want to reduce the amount of "evil" foods in the house.

JUST BY SHARING those feelings and wishes with them, you are putting yourself out there - they will probably try to help you indirectly by keeping an eye on your snacking, your own conscience would be more likely to keep you accountable, and I would THINK they'd encourage you to do your best to work your tool!    Include them in it, ask them to help you!  Kids, in MY experience, LOVE that!

And make sure to have HEALTHY snack options available - protein first, SF beverage mix-ins, yogurt, cheeses, jerky, protein bars...  Your tool is still there.  You just need to wake it up!

Good luck to you!  Keep checking in here!

I wish I had the right words to say, but I am only a year out and have different issues. You came to the right place for support and you are not the only one feeling this way.

I thank you so much for your thoughts. I just need to keep this up front in my life right now. I do not have to bad of snack foods at home. Cottage cheese, yogurt, carrots, low sod.crackers. its at work where I started to eat bad. I work at a clinic in Maple Grove. Nothing but chocolat, bars and other treats all day everyday. I was going out to eat and didn't think it was to bad because it wasn't fast food. well..... the deli at the groceries is as full of bad things as fast food. I am just recently getting into habbit bringing my lunch. I have never done this before and it has made me feel soooooo good about my choices. I am trying to get motivated for exercise. it used to be so easy because I love to exercise, sweat and muscle soreness (because then I know I did something) after my surgery it was a lot easier because me and my children used to go to martial arts class 2-5 times per week. (got to expensive) I am sooooo not a runner and I like work out tapes as long as they are fun. Just got to get there.
