Question
So Just a quck update for everyone doesn't look like my mom is goin to come around and I am OK with that I flat out asked her if I could count on her after surgry and she said that she wouldn't even know what needs to be done and I told her that I got a ton of information that I could tell her and share with her and her responce was "Idon't want to know anything about it!" So I think that I am goin to stay at a friends house I'm not sure that the enviorment is goin to be less stressfull but anything at this point has got to be better then home.
Anyway the whole point of my message was: I was at the dentist today and I need a retainer to push back a tooth. I told her that I was havin surgry and she said oh well then lets wait till after you loose your weight cuz your teeth are goin to shift and we will get a better fit if we wait. So my question is How much do teeth actually shift? I guess I never thought about teeth shiftin from loosin weight. My teeth are my pride and that means I have to wait a year or longer till I can get this tooth pushed back in line
. So any thoguhts?

I wear dentures so can't help with the actual tooth question but I know that my gum line changed a TON... I'll be going in for new fittings again. Things you don't think about change a lot. For some reason losing 2 shoe sizes really took me by surprise.
The very best of luck to you - I'm sorry your mom isn't right behind you. Thank goodness for friends!

This one I do have a good answer. I had all but 5 of my teeth pulled before WLS. I have had to have 2 new sets of plates made sinces surgery because my gums and the existing teeth moved. The dentist did not make the second set until aftr my weight stabilized.
Your dentist is right, wait until after you loose most of your weight before getting the retainer. You will simply end up getting more than one as your weight changes. This is only a part of all the physical changes that take place after WLS.
I am sorry that your mom won't help you. I can only hope that your inner strength is enough to make it through this. I know how important it is to have our mom's there for us. Mine lives in AZ and when I saw her 100 lbs lighter all she could say to people was "the dentist did not get her new teeth done, what a shame".
Hang in therem YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO DO THIS.
