I wouldn't say that you are done with malabsorption by any means.  When I was pregnant with my last child post WLS, my weight bounced up and down a lot.  I gained about 10 pounds in one month, then the next month I lost 3.  I was all over the map for almost my whole pregnancy.  I ended up only gaining 12 pounds total and left the hospital weighing less than when I found out I was pregnant.

I didn't try to eat for the health of the baby.  I was religious about my vitamins, and made sure I got in that folic acid as well. With the hormones bouncing all over the place, I was usually able to eat more during most parts of my pregnancy.  That all changed before I went home after having her, and I was right back to the restricted eating as long as I eat food in the correct order (protein first).

I have also lost another few pounds since I've had her, but, like Darla, there are about 15 more that I'd like to never see again.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Leia, that does help. It's nice to get more information from some one who has gotten pregnant after surgery. I am trying hard to follow program, but I feel like I am hungry all the time, and if I don't eat a little something every 3 or 4 hours I get nauseated. I'm just so scared to put the wt. on and I know I need to for the baby's sake.
Thanks again

I did have to eat very often almost the whole time I was pregnant also.  If I didn't, I would either be nauseated or groggy and all out of it.  If I waited too long, then I'd almost get low blood sugar feelings.  I just tried to eat things that weren't as bad for me.  Lots of cheese, fruit and veggies.  Things that wouldn't get me too far off track with the WLS diet, but satisfied the hungriest baby in history.  (She's still that way.)

You have to remember to not really worry about the number on the scale.  As long as you aren't eating all carbs all the time, you'll be fine.  Being mindful of what it is, not how much, is what your job will be until delivery.

Also, be VERY careful of the gestational diabetes testing.  You CANNOT drink that stuff.  It is 60 ounces of sugar.  You will not be okay.  There are other blood tests that may involve fasting that can get the same measures.  If your OB pushes you on it, let your bariatric nurse get a letter to them stating why you can't do sugar and alternatives.  I had to fight very little, I know others that had to fight that one a lot.

OMG, I never thought about the "sugar drink", thanks for reminding me!
Thanks for all the great info, I will try more fruits and vegetables for in between meals.
Thanks so much!

I was told by my surgeon that the malabsorption never ends but our bodies get used to it to some degree and therefore that is why the weight loss slows down and it is possible to eat through it easier, hence seeing people gain the weight back if they don't use their tool properly. I still lose weight very easy if I don't get in enough calories and if I get too much, I can gain too. So I believe we have malabsorption for the rest of our lives but our bodies have learned to cope with it so we don't continue to lose weight forever.
